What's new

MY new rooney 1/2 (T&H)

So me and jrowan recently got the same brush, almost. Is his bloom wider because his is the Rooney Super Silvertip and mine is the T&H Silvertip? Is the T&H Silvertip equivalent to Rooney "Genuine Silvertip"?

Instantly my favorite brush, btw. It's just soooooooooo PERFECT. :001_smile

They're exactly the same brush. I have a TH 1/2 as well. It's super silvertip.

T&H claim that they upspec the density of the knot and get more hair in there, which I'm sceptical of.

There will always be variations between two brushes of the same model, it's part of the handmade factor. My first one shed and the replacement looked far bigger.

Very cool, thanks so much. I keep getting reminded of the 'hand-made' factor, and it's starting to sink in. I'm glad the bloom is a bit smaller, though. Helps to get into the soap dish.

Super Silvertip indeed. It's been discussed at length here recently.

REALLY nice brush there. Awesome bloom (testament to the density).

I'm curious what his loft is. If they are the same, and the knot is the same, wouldn't it mean the T&H does have a denser knot? Maybe it's not just T&H marketing.

Well, bloom isn't a science - we don't know how long after use those pictures were taken. We don't know if they were both handled the same way after each use. We don't know if harder water sits in one or the other, or what sort of soap residue is camping out there either. Shoot, you could pull two Rooney's from Jim's stock and they'd probably bloom differently. I wouldn't pound the gavel on this based on bloom.

Given your rather extensive experience with brushes, I thought you WOULD have this down to a science. :biggrin1:

I could try and measure it if you want, but the spec was supposed to be either 49mm or 50mm depending on whose website you look at. But I think they're all "approximate" because of the handmade aspect.

I don't know how they could get more hair in this thing. It's super dense.... almost too dense. In a way, I kinda wished it had a smaller bloom. But that's only after one use...

Yep, mine is about 49-50, but I'm not even sure how to measure it exactly. I had my first real use, but second lathering (had to test it when it first came in :tongue_sm), this morning. I used MWF, too.

I've been eying those T&H brushes, even put together an order with a 1/3 in it, but didn't place it... this isn't helping to resist. Nice brush you've got there.
