What's new

My new razor

I pulled the trigger and bought me a spanking new razor the other day. The new one makes it the 20th razor for me and first one out of the box!
I have the Fatboy, slim, superadjustable and a bunch of superspeeds. I also have some Swedish like Matador, E.V.D and National and a Mond Rotbart.
So what did a buy? A Muhle 89 and it was a smooth shave, really mild with a Astra so I will get me some Feathers to try. I know it's a "newbierazor" but...I'm a newbie still I guess. A really good shave can take some time to achieve, that's for sure!

Anyway, it was a really good buy and man, a new razor does shine!! That's all folks!:biggrin1:

Gratulerer med den nye rakkniven / Congrats on the new razor.

You should post some pictures of your collection!

I love my R89, the shaves are great, it's beautifully designed and it's mild on my face. It could've easily been the only razor I've purchased but the snob in me been eyeing an EJ chatsworth barley (same head, oh, so different handle) which would definitely be my last razor.

I have the EJ89 and I absolutely love it. I thought it was too mild at first but after a few shaves with it my technique improved a lot. You just have to get used to the blade angle that it likes. Now I can get BBS with an Astra relatively easily.

Just had to chime in here. I have had some of the higher end razors and on a fluke ordered an EJ89. It may not be "the" razor for everyone, bit I sold all my others and now have 3 EJ's, same head different handles. I also have been eyeing the Chatsworth, let me know how you like the handle if indeed you do get one.

That EJ's a fine facetool! Same head, as you said. I thinking of a UFO handle to the R89 head, but soooooo many things I want! :)
But I think it's a expensive handle on the Chatsworth. But how cool would it be if we all sought after same razors??

I love my vintage razor for its character and history, but love my brand new Merkur as well as it gives me the experience of opening a brand new razor like they did back in the day

I also think about previous owners, who shaved with my razor before me? Like thinking if space actually ends, make's you go crazy!!

Np, will do, although it wont be for a couple of more months as I'm trying to get my cream/soap "situation" straight, lol. I might just shoot you a PM.

Wow, just checked out those UFO handles and they look pretty good. Coincidentally Just this morning I saw a vintage Gillette head on a weber handle:

While they all look good they mostly have an industrial feel to them. I think I'm more into a classier look and I wouldnt replace the Muhle R89 handle for nothing custom (at least nothing's caught my eye so far) other than something similar to the EJ CB handle. I do feel that my R89 handle is a little short and I'm only 5'8" with average hands so I imagine that the R89 probably feel tiny in a taller man's hand or for someone with big hands.

I'd replace the handle of many Merkurs and Parkers DE razors in heartbeat though.
