My Guess... 3017

Impressive! I've done one and have a puck waiting....

I've moved on to a big hitter. Castle Forbes Lavender. First shave with it this morning was not as good as the last several shaves with the AOS Unscented. Need to get things dialed in. Might have been a bit stingy with the product. I like the peppermint scent of the doctored AOS better. I also enjoy CF Lime EO more. Still will enjoy the next couple of months...

After 4 months and change, the puck and a half of The Fat is gone.

MWF is on my keeper list.

3017ing has definitely gotten me to the point where I think I can get the most from a soap. I've been working on a little tub of Cella for a couple of weeks now, and as in the case of MWF, I can see why it's a well-regarded classic.

I thought that the Wilkie stick was supposed to be a good one? Sounds like some allergy thingie to me. Any ingredient in it that seemed to have it in for you?

I don't know what it is. To be honest, I don't analyze soap ingredients, either a soap works for me or it doesn't. Reminds me of the irritation I got when using Classic Shaving Rose. I think I am going to do a "control shave" with Mike's Natural Soaps, that's one brand that has never failed me. I will use Mikes for a few days before I go on to Coates.

Binned the Wilkinson shave stick. I decided to give it another try. I cut it down the middle and put it into my shave bowl, and lathered it up as if it were a puck. Lit me up again. Shortly after my shave, my upper lip and cheeks got all red and irritated, felt like sunburn after a day. So, into the trash it went. Onto Coates Cream Lime, my last tube of Coates.
I gotta say this, been 3017ing for a few years now, and you really get to the point where you do not tolerate any sub standard soaps anymore.

Sorry the Wilkie stick didn't work out. Its a good performer, but if you're reacting to an ingredient their is no sense pushing it. Its just soap after all. Your comment about not tolerating sub standard soaps is spot on with my 3017 journey. In the past 4 months I've binned 2 soaps after just a couple uses each. I can tell pretty quickly now if a product is a top performer. If it isn't, off to the bin it goes. Looking at my stash I don't think I have any products left that might be candidates for an early binning, but you never know.

I've been using KMF Lavender and Shea the past few days. Even though I am home I've been using it brushless and getting really good shaves with my ATT Slant. This tube is almost gone so I'm going to just 3017 it. I have a newish tube in my Dopp for traveling so I might as well burn through this partial tube. Should have it wrapped up in a week or so.

Just finished a puck of Haslinger's schafmilch!

:a14::a14::a14: Well done. You know what I hate about 3017 Haslinger? When its gone...unless you go with another Haslinger soap the chances are whatever you use next will be a step down. Boo.

I can't wait until I get these odds and ends out of my stash so I can return to "da milch". One of the favorites.

+1! Tough to improve on the schafmilch!

Thinking about a different Haslinger's option because most anything else would be a step down IMHO!

Sounds the same to me and I had a very similar reaction to that soap... the worst of any I've had, actually because it did persist just like a sunburn throughout the day.

I wonder what the ingredient was? I have an allergic reaction to half of the artisan soaps I try. If I could ever figure out what to stay away from I would. The Wilkie Sword stick didn't give me any trouble at all. Just goes to show ya...

Now half as wise
Thought I better post an update. I got frustrated loading enough soap from the ring of Trumpers and binned it. Started a tube of Palmolive cream on April first. I had become worried after Bob's experience with the Coates, since this tube was 5 years old. No problem and it worked like a champ. I used it when traveling last week and decided to leave it in my travel kit. Started on a jar of TFS Bergamotto Neroli that I've had for at least as long as the Palmolive. This came from a group buy before it was readily available. I honestly don't remember using it, but I must have tried it a few times. At any rate, I wasn't sure what to expect, since I don't hear anyone talking about this stuff any more. I have been very happy with the results the last 3 days, and am looking forward to finishing this jar! Performance is top notch, but there is virtually no scent left.

When I tried to load up the last bits of my Soap Commander Endurance sample today the soap broke apart. I tried chasing the bits around the dish unsuccessfully before moving them to my lather bowl. In the bowl I was unable to get them to produce a decent lather, so down the drain they went in favor of some KMF Bamboo & Green Tea.

I got 12 shaves from the sample. I didn't weigh it before starting, but I read somewhere that the SC samples are 18 grams. If that is true, then my usage was 1.5 grams per shave. Not too bad.

Tomorrow one of my Stirling samples is on the clock.

PdP sage is no more. My first serious 3017 with a triple milled soap lasted 86 shaves. There was a learning curve on this soap that once figured out yielded some very nice lather. Only knock is it can be a little finicky about how wet the brush was but once I got past the first couple weeks I was pretty consistent. The scent is right in my wheelhouse though so this is going to be a staple of my soap collection. Already have a backup and in the unlikely event that I ever use up all my soap I'd replace it again.

Earlier this week I was using KMF brushless. Yesterday and today I grabbed a 24mm plissoft synthetic and whipped up a surprisingly good lather. KMF is a versatile cream.

I'm a big fan of Palmolive. The mentholated version is a very viable alternative to Proraso Green for those who don't like the scent of Proraso (like me). IIRC, the tubes are sealed in a way that the Coate's tubes are not. Also, I'd wager that my tubes of Coate's are at least 10 years old from a production standpoint. I have one more shave left in the tube of Coate's Rose, and then on to Trumper Violet. I believe that there are still tubes of the Coate's creams available at Coate's Superior Shaving Cream. I'm deliberately finishing all of my creams and won't buy more, but at the price, these are more than worth giving a try.

Approaching my 1 year anniversary of becoming a 3017er. Seems like a lot of soap has been used but my soap shelf doesn't look any less crowded, probably because I keep buying more but at least I have slowed my acquisition of soaps. I have a Synergy Cavendish which has been hanging around for a while that I think I will take a shot at next. Picked this up several years ago and don't recall being blown away by it but I'll give it the 3017 treatment and determine my true thoughts on it.

A Stirling Executive Man sample is on the clock today. Stirling's web site says that their samples are between 20 and 30 grams. If that is the case I estimate it will take about 14-16 shaves to kill this sample. The performance was excellent and the scent was very nice.

Once this one is done I have one more Stirling sample and two more Soap Commander samples, then I think I will be diving back into creams with a tub of AoS Eucalyptus.

I finished off the tube of Nivea Sensitive shaving cream I've been using the past few months. It's very good stuff. It's a shame it's been discontinued in America.

I will likely use up some samples of TOBS next.
