My Guess... 3017

Just switched to Haslinger after all the positive talk. Amazing shave but I found it needed more water then I expected. Also it never gets fluffy. Just seems more yogurt like.

I'm in, I was never able to pick up a full tub of IanS before production stopped. What a great opportunity, thanks!

Still working though my sample puck of MITA. I'm looking forward to a full 3017 when I get back to Chicago. Godspeed to you, Phil, if you can stick with that sample box!

Thanks. I'll need it… I don't think I'll ever buy another sample. Most of it should be enjoyable, though.

While we're sharing samples, this is what I have left in the way of samples:

Small ( < 5g)
2 SCS
1 LASS
Med ( > 5g)
1 HTGAM Beach
1 B&M Bay Rum
Large ( > 14g)
1 B&M Seville
1 Razorock Coconut
1 SS Baker Street
1 Stirling Barbershop
Partials:
1 Arko Moist Cream (half tube)
1 Haslinger Schafmilch (1/3 puck)
1 Proraso Green (half travel tube)

My 3017 of Palmolive continues tomorrow after a weekend trip.

Ya'll with your large sample stashes are making me feeling mighty good about my current status of being officially sample free. Heck after a year of 3017ing my stash is down right getting small. Just where I want it...a good soap in the dish and 2 or 3 good soaps in the drawer.

I would agree, my Schafmilch is definitely more yogurt-like, which is actually why I enjoy it. I haven't seen any real lather porn-esque pictures but I'm sure with enough effort one could get it there.

Ideally, this is what I hope to get down to at some point. Realistically, I see myself getting down to 2-3 of my 5* star soaps that I use regularly, then having a smaller shoe box style container under the since with 5 or so "seasonal" or hard to find soaps/creams.

I just finished my 1st 3017!!

D.R. Harris Arlington. I've been reading along with this thread for a while and seeing people finishing soaps, creams & samples, left, right & centre, but I just kept plodding along with my soap. It seemed to take forever, but I got there eventually. Unfortunately it came to an unceremonious ending. It looked like the puck still had at least a weeks worth of shaves; but I use the term puck loosely. It was more like a soggy collection of soap chunks. It started breaking up so badly that I could no longer load it. Decided to give it a go as a shower soap and it lasted one shower :(

The stats:
D.R. Harris Arlington
6 Feb 2015 - 6 July 2015 == ~145 shaves (It had a few before I started 3017 and I skipped a few shaves on the way)

I did weigh it when I started, but I've lost the figures. Going on the published weight I was only using 0.7g per shave. Obviously I wasn't loading it like I hated it. Which is fair enough, it will be going on my to buy list when I get to the restocking point. Might go for a different scent next time. Maybe Windsor.

Next up is a Palmolive (Australian) Stick that has been mashed into a container. I've used it a half dozen times as a shave stick, but I wasn't really impressed. It seemed to give quite a light, airy lather that wasn't to my liking. On the plus side it smells like zinc sunscreen (if you don't know what that is, just watch any Australian cricketer sometime. They love that stuff) and the beach in summer. Quite unique.

That's how I like it too. I've posted a few pics from various 3017 of Haslinger scents and they don't look like much if you are after the big poofy lather shots.

I'll take that lather over most SOTD lather shots every time.

All of you's guys finishing off samples makes me want to jump on the two I have left, Stirling Ozark Mountain and Coniferous. I'm hoping to resist as these are more Fall/Winter scents.

The den is down to only a handful of makers now. Haslinger and AoS/Valobra make up the majority of the soaps I have left. I have some vintage Williams and Yardley that will be used here and there, two that will be moved out ( Strop Shoppe Alpine Frost and CB LTV) and a puck of MWF that Heath sent me.

I'll prolly give the MWF a whirl coming up soon because I know the AoS I'm using is a keeper.

EDIT: Forgot about the SA Williams stick that I use for travel.

Agreed. Provides more than enough cushion and more slickness than just about anything else I've tried. I've gone through a couple pucks of Schafmilch, and will have to pick up some of the other scents during next years restock.

Today, was shave 33 on my shaving yeti columbian necktie. In the beginning I was having the lather fade really quickly and it didn't offer much slickness or protection. I seem to be past that and now have nice thick and slick lather almost every day. According to my cheesy scale I am using about one gram a day so this tin will last awhile. I am not very keen on the smell so it is unlikely that I will replace this soap (smells like fruit punch to me).

All this talk of samples made me check to see what I had laying around. Looks like I have two samples from captain and some cream that was added to one of my orders. Not sure when I will put them in the queue but I will eventually get to them. I have have 20+ soaps to choose from including the various haslinger varieties so it isn't like I will run out of soap anytime soon. This thread has caused me to ignore my self imposed purchase embargo and get a few soaps that get good reviews on this thread.

Congrats on the first kill! I have never used the Australian Palmolive, but the general consensus is that it isn't quite as nice as the Euro version. Give it a fair shake, but don't be discouraged if it doesn't turn out to be your cup of tea.

Still using my 50g sample of RR SMdF and enjoying it. Great shaves, stronger scent then I'm used to from the last few items I 3017.

Even in my open dish, it is still very soft, almost cream like. Vanilla seems to be gone to my nose and I have no idea how much I'm using. I'd guess I'll be in the 3.33g range, as I normally am with RR croaps.

I also don't get any menthol kick from it but it may add to the menthol kick when I apply some old Proraso Splash which I've been using.

Another solid shave with the XXX. Think I might be starting to dial it in.

I did a couple dozen test lathers with various products over the weekend, and I think I've been using too little pressure loading the brush. I usually swirl the brush on the surface with very little pressure, but I'm barely getting any product loaded up, especially with my very soft badgers. Using more pressure, and definitely not mashing the brush but pushing the brush into the soap a bit, I'm getting a lot more product.

For the XXX, that means I have enough product for 2-3 passes, get a good lather that isn't disappearing on the skin, has good coverage, good density, etc. And my razor feels pretty decent on the face again.

Will keep plugging away at the XXX and put the Haslinger on the shelf until later on.

Woot! Behold, the power of 3017.

Congrats! That's quite a long run to only be using a single soap. Most other 3017's will probably seem easy by comparison!

Palmolive is a great soap, IMO. That was my first or second 3017. I really like the scent and the quality is very good.

The longer I do this (and I have been in the Program for a good number of years), the easier it becomes. I was away over the weekend and would gladly have taken my Haslinger puck with me (not feeling the need for a change) but took a Palmolive stick for the sake of convenience and had a great Sunday morning shave.

Haslinger still rocks.
