What's new

My first order of PRORASO

I got a tube of the shaving cream, and a bottle of the liquid cream after shave balm.

MMmmmm, now that's an interesting scent. Menthol and Eucalyptus. But WOW does that menthol make my face all cool and tingly! Seriously, when re-lathering it felt like an ice cube was being rubbed on my face, and the feeling was even more intense during the cold water final rinse.

I just did a quick 3-pass shave with my Tech, so nothing too hard. I finished with the liquid cream ASB and didn't feel even the slightest bit of burn. None! As not-unpleasant as that was, it almost felt like something was missing. Maybe I'll invest in a bottle of their aftershave splash, but that's another story for another day.

Anyone else recall their first Proraso experience and care to share/relate?

My first time with Proraso cream was the first non-canned cream I had tried. It was like eating fresh vegetables after eating canned, did not even seem like the same product. I have not used the ASB only the splash, but it is a wonderful experience each time I indulge. :001_smile

I find the shaving cream mild at the most... The Pre/Post has a good kick, if i want a good wake up call i just go crazy with the A/S splash.

I will always have some Proraso in my den!

Proraso is simply outstanding.
I love it so much that I keep the entire range of shaving products they offer in my rotation.
In my opinion, Proraso is the best low cost shaving brand.:thumbup1:

The more I use Proraso the more I appreciate it's straightforward effectiveness. It's great lathering capabilities and wonderful after shave balm make is a staple in my shave den. Unfortunately, my initial impression wasn't very good and didn't later well but now I'm happy to say I was incorrect.

I've no tried proraso..only C.O.Bigelow which people say is the same thing, and man do I love this cream!!! It's slick, provides lot of cushion and lathers the best of my creams that are in my rotation...I love this cream!!!!

If you like proraso you should try omega the new formulas have the same ingredients and its a buck or two cheaper.

About a year ago there were as many Proraso threads in this forum as there are Tabac threads in the soap forum. Much less now, I wonder why...

I just recently lost my wetshave-virginity to a Proraso shaving cream. lol..it was sweet, it left me so cool and tingley afterwards, i was craving a shave for the next 24 hrs!

Proraso was first tried on my face without a brush since I had the cream first and the brush was on order. Needless to say, it didn't work out. After getting the brush, I get a much better lather.

I like it, but don't seem to get a great lather with it. I get more with Taylor of Bond Street Avacodo. What am I doing wrong?

I'm fairly new to mixing lather, but what I did seemed to work very well.

Soak your brush in very hot water, and then take a shower. If you can't shower, then get a washcloth really hot and wet, wring it out, and flatten it across your beard for a minute or two. Splash some hot water on your face afterward for good measure to open up the pores as much as you can.

Then, I give my brush a light shake, and maybe a gentle squeeze. Portion out an "almond-size" dab of cream and drop it in your mixing bowl. Now, swirl your brush around in the bowl like crazy to mix it all up, using some plunging motions too. I was told to go for a "yogurt"-like consistency, so keep working at it. Try dropping a teeny tiny bit of water in there if it doesn't seem to be whipping up.

I know I'm ready to put it on when the bristles all stick together and there's a little "peak" on top of the brush when I pull it out of the bowl, much like the shape of a soft-serve ice cream cone before the first lick.

I hope this helps, and by all means, veterans, correct me if I'm "doing it wrong!"!!

Thanks. What I have been doing is building the lather on my face. Maybe the bowl is better. I do shower before shaving and give my face a rinse in the hot shower stream afterward just before I shut the shower off. I dry off everything but my face and then work on the lather.

For now I'm using a small cereal bowl that I got from Target for around a dollar. It works alright, but I'm searching for a mug that has a bowl shape instead of a cylinder shape, and that's heavy/dense enough to not float in my sink of hot water (to keep the lather and brush warm). For now, though, it's a great bowl with plenty of room to swirl around, but shallow and wide enough that my handle isn't clanging against the edges.

What was my first shave with Proraso like?

It was like waking up on a snowy Christmas morning and finding a Red Rider BB gun with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time under the tree...
