What's new

My DE Family is Finally Growing....

Here are my recent additions:

The first is a Slim I got on the 'Bay. It's a N4, which seems to be the last production run of the Slim. Great shape, the adjusting ring clicks positively, and the numbers are still black. There's still one unused blade in that holder, might have to give it whirl one day.

The next picture is an aluminum handle Tech. It's a P3. I found it in a local antique store. I will NOT be trying those Super Blue blades!

Last but not least, two more Techs my mother found at another antique store. There's a gold-tone ball-end with no date code. From the ShaveWiki, it sounds like it was made between 1946-1950. The other is one of the plastic handle ones from 1951. Still seems nice and weighty despite that handle.

Enjoy a few pictures!

The Slim and the Techs are all great shavers! Actually, check the slots on your techs - the early ones had a triangle looking slot while the later ones had more of a rectangle. The triangle slot Tech is a bit more aggressive.

I'm on the hunt for an aluminum handle Tech just like that for myself. It's what I remember my father shaving with back in the 80s.

I love the braided knurling.

Thanks for the comments! Yes, I fear this is only the start. Seems to be feast or famine when it comes to these things. I've been to just about every antique mall around and had no luck, then I find three of them in one shot. I'd love to have found that Slim in the wild, but I just really, really wanted one, so to the 'Bay I went. As far as the Techs go, I really like the weight and balance of that ball-handled one. Seems like it would yield a great shave with a blade like a Feather. It has the rectangular slots, so its one of the milder ones it seems. I have a couple of questions about these for the gurus:

1. On the Slim, which number would equal the aggressiveness (or lack thereof) of my '57 plain Flaretip SS? Just from a visual, it seems that 3 would be about right.

2. On the gold-toned ball-end Tech, it seems that there's a different method I've seen for polishing one with this finish. What would that be?

3. On the ball-end and plastic handle; they have the "etched" Gillette logo onh the cap. Id this something that can be removed accidentally by careless polishing?
