My Baby is Back! Some Razor PICS

So... Some of you may have seen my post a while back about sending some of my babies to Closecut61/Dave/West Coast Razors for an overhaul - primary choice to me being my personal favourite, a Hoffritz slant. I sent off a bunch of other favorites as well. See this post for details.

Anyhoo, I have this absolutely mint Hoffritz case I found in an antique store empty, but the slant I found elsewhere was pretty rough plating-wise.

Flash forward a month or so... and my Baby has returned and boy is she pretty in her new RHODIUM skin!!! I am thrilled with Dave's work. Anyone who is considering replating that special razor in their collection should just pull the trigger and do it. The man knows his art!

Also returned was my nice flare tip Aristocrat, replated in silver to keep her original, and a bunch of old necks and ball ends I had Dave replate. Why the odds and ends you might ask?

So that I can return them to glory in some nice wood turned handles! I couldn't wait to make one! A very nice blue burl acrylic stabilized looks just awesome with these necks and ends. Pictured on it's own and holding a DE89 head.

Lots more handles to come over the next few weeks I think! I love the idea of returning these parts from the edge of the garbage can to a new life on a new handle!

Cheers all!

That's very impressive plating on the Slant. It's no easy task having to replate pot-metal. I've learned the hard way :001_unsur . It has to be thoroughly buffed and polished and it requires multiple layers (copper and nickle) before the rhodium can be done. That's some fabulous time consuming work from Dave.

Great plating job on both. I agree that blue burl handle is quite something as well. Very nice razors you have there.

That Hoffritz slant is drop dead gorgeous. Dave is the man, no one pays as much attention to detail as he does.

That is some of the most beautiful work I've ever seen. As my grandson would say "Totally Awesome"....and the replated razors aren't bad either <G>.... those should give you decades of great service. Future family heirlooms for sure.:em2200:

That blue burl handle looks great with replated end pieces. Great way to reuse those with so many of the original cracked handles that are around.

Nice work on the Slant, But i noticed it lost its white Vintage look on the handle, what is that what looking stuff on those vintage slants?

This one didn't have the white to begin with actually. It originally had a shiny, albeit worn silver or nickel finish I believe. I think they made them in a few finishes actually. I've seen gold as well as the white matte finish you are referring to. I think I read somewhere that it was a silver oxide finish or something like that to get that matte white.
