MWF Sacrilege?

I ordered a refill puck of MWF after having a sample that had been shredded and reformed. I always got a great lather from the reformed sample.

I don't have a WMF bowl (couldn't justify the extra cost), and I keep most of my soaps in small tupperware containers I got at Ocean State Job Lot.

Would it be considered MWF sacrilege to shred my entire puck and reform it? Is it possible that the fact that it was shredded made it easier to lather?

It's never sacrilege to do anything that would enhance your ability to enjoy a shave product. As far as better lathering? Not sure, maybe the grating process would soften the soap enough to get different results. Then again maybe not.

Happy Shaving

I'm not sure of the "religious" implications, but you're shaving your face...do what's right for you. If shredding the soap makes it work better, then who are we to say it's the wrong thing to do. Also, I've heard this technique used a number of times.

I pretty much grate all of my triple milled soaps as I find they load easier. I grated my MWF puck and pressed it down into the ceramic container so there is no space on the sides. Now when I soak the puck for a minute or so I dump that water into the sink and that's the water I used while building lather, works really well for me.

I used mine as a puck for a while and did ok, but not great with the lathering.
I got some new Ikea Grundtal containers for my soaps so I grated the MWF and pushed it into the new container after reading a thread about it here.
The thread was about people having problems lathering MWF and was saying that grating it will make it lather better.

After doing this it fits into the container perfectly and does seems to lather right up for me and seems much better.
I have no way to prove that grating it made the difference, but it seems like a much better soap for me now.

I say grate it and press it into the container of your choice. I do this with all my soaps now.

It is YOUR soap. Do with it what you will. There have been people that have grated it and made shave sticks out of it. If it gets you to use the soap and enjoy it as you should, then do it.

Shredding your soap to reform it is totally legit (if somewhat laborious). It does often improve ease of lathering though

Egad! Other than intended use of Mitchell's Wool Fat should be a Felony!

The Law is Clear: "Whoever knowingly mutilates, defaces, physically defiles, burns, maintains on the floor or ground, or tramples upon any Puck of Mitchell's Wool Fat shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for not more than one year, or both."

We might have to take away your soap as States Evidence!

That has to be one of the coolest pics of da Fat EVER! I might have to make it my desktop image! :)

I put mine in a 6 ounce Stackn'Loc interlocking storage container that I purchased at Ocean State Job Lot. The puck fits perfectly in the container without trimming. They are quite economical being 4 for $2.25 and they nest bottom to top and lock with a twist which is convenient for storage. The puck sits about 1/2" from the top so their is some room to build lather. I prefer not to go thru the chore of shredding. They also fit other pucks like Provence Sante.

Man, all this talk about MWF really, really makes me jealous that I can't try it. Lanolin lights up my face like a tire fire.

But, I don't think shredding it is sacrilege. If it helps to get better lather and thus a better shave, go for it. :001_tongu

I have read in other threads just how difficult lathering MWF can be. My first time trying MWF and every shave after I was still scratching my head trying to figure out what all the complaints were about. And then after reading this thread I figured out why I have not had a problem lathering the Fat as a new soap lather learner: I had a wooden bowl that was too small for the MWF puck and so I grated it!

My first try right out of the gate with MWF was with a puck that I grated, shaped and put into that smaller wooden bowl :001_cool: So, there's your answer! Grate that puck all you want, you will probably have less difficulty getting it to lather.

what process do you guys use to grate it? just literally use a cheese grater until there's no more soap left, wet it and force it all back into the container so it's in one solid piece again?

I'm having a lot of trouble lately with my MWF and I think it's my water..have been enjoying my shaves FAR more with Barbasol..

And it's only soap, so a good washing and it's good in the kitchen.
