Multi Razor Roll - I made my own

Some time ago I told myself I was going to make my own razor roll and post pix when I finished it.
Well, I finished it today. Here is the result:

Materials are recycled. Cloth is the backs of a couple of disused camo uniform shirts. Straps were a couple of paperbag handles.
I did the sewing on a machine with instruction from my mother

It has slots for 11 straights, but I left the last 2 on the right joined for me to put miscellaneous items. The slots are just right for fitting the anti-rust sleeves that I got from thesuperiorshave.com.

Credits: Designs that I've seen on other forums as well as razorsmith.com.

Sonic,
I've been thinking about doing this ( in leather) but am intimidated by the sewing. How hard was this to design and actually sew?

Really great looking sleeve. Does your mom take students?

Nice work for the ultimate scratch free hunting travel case. Maybe a velro closure instead of the tie?. The only problem is you can't really admire your razors as chics might not dig it open in the bathroom all the time. :001_huh:

Oake,
Not difficult at all. I did plan it in my head for a while on how to do this and decided on a KISS - Keep It Simple, Stupid approach. (Of course, I'm talking about using cloth. I wouldn't have a clue on how to do this in leather).
There was a learning curve with the sewing machine but after a couple of practice straight lines that wasn't too bad. The difficult part was figuring out how to thread the damn thing.

My design is just a 2 layer rectangular piece double stitched. Bottom folded up and sewn to form pockets and a strap sewn onto the right side. No other flaps or thingamajigs to add on.
Dimensions that worked for me are:
- started with a 15"x22.5" drawn rectangle (this was the biggest I could fit onto the material I had. Figured I'd probably fill up all the number of pockets I could fit into it)
- pockets are 5" deep, 2" wide. The biggest straights I have are the Dovo Bismarck and Gold Dollar #66. They fit perfectly even with the anti-rust sleeves.

Yeah, thought about velcro, but again came back to the KISS approach. Besides, opening the velcro would spook the prey while on safari.

I have a couple of toddlers in the house so the razors don't lay around in the open anyway. I had to take them out one by one from the cupboard previously. At least now I can admire and caress them all while deciding which one is worthy of caressing my face on the day.

Thinking of doing a buttonhole in a corner so that I can hang the roll from a hook or doorknob while travelling but I'll save that for another day.

Dimensions....perfect. Thanks for this. I like the idea of recycled materials. I don't have a sewing machine, but my elderly mother does and it hasn't seen duty since Reagan was president. Is it fair to say that doing it by hand would just be too much work?

Using a sewing machine was not difficult but it had its challenges.

Doing it by hand........ let's just say I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Very nice!

A razor roll is very handy, I got a vintage leather one that takes 4 razors I use for travel.

Very cool - I wanted to find someone to do exactly this with some Woodland Marpat Cordura I have lying around.
