Multi-purpose Starter Set

I've been DE shaving for ~5 years and just got into shaving with a straight. I'd like to eventually hone my straights so I'd like to get a set of hones eventually. Right now I'm looking for some stones for my kitchen cutlery that I'd like to eventually use for my razors, so I was thinking:

DMT D8F general purpose kitchen stone
DMT D8E finishing stone for kitchen, coarse stone for straights
DMT D8EE eventually fine for my straights

Is this a good way to go for someone who has never honed before?

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. You may need to break them in a bit (do a search for "break in DMT"), and you probably want something as a finisher (could be as simple as a chrome oxide strop or as fancy as a Thury or beyond). The advantage of a pasted strop is that you don't need a courser stone for lapping your finishing hone if you choose to add something after the DMT EE. But technically that is all you need.
