What's new

More decants on the way

Kouros - never tried it and felt I should give it a chance

Caron pour un homme - Vanilla and lavender are my two favorite scents. I like ATOH by Kilian, but find it has a sharp note I don't like. I've read it might be the absinthe, which is not in the Caron.

Cuir Ottoman - I don't like leathers but have heard such good things about this one I had to get a sample.

Mouchoir de Monsieur - I like Jicky and want to try MdM too.

ELDO Antiheroes. Was recommended I think in lavender thread that it's a pure lavender, so got me a sample.

My new thing is getting 3 ml samples. Plenty of sprays in there to decide whether to like/not like a scent. The CPUH was 15 ml only because it was so cheap.

Interesting choices. I'll not pretend to know whether you will like these or not as you pop out of nowhere and end up liking something that there is no way I would have ever guessed you would. Cuir Ottoman is gorgeous and probably my favorite of the bunch. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on Kouros....

Interesting choices, Schad. Like Tim, I won't guess too much, but I think if you like Jicky you'll probably like the MdM. Also, I'm only just now starting to appreciate the differences between the very similar ATOH and Caron PuH, so I encourage you to spend some time with both before you draw a final conclusion.

Looking forward to your comments.

I'm really looking forward to Kouros, whether I like it or not. It's so polarizing and a legendary scent.

Yeah welll, since you're not standing in a store, you will own the sample. So don't be one of those guys who get revolted by the first 5 minutes on a card and start pontificating about how it's the worst scent ever. Knuckle down, spray it on and be patient. Let it move into the honeyed dry down. And less may be more with this one. It is an 80s scent, so it's stronger than many of the contemporary offerings. I do not advise test driving it to work on first sampling. Not a good work scent IMO.

The opening notes are what evokes all the "ewwwww, urinal cakes, cat pee" comments, and it is fairly civet laden. But I slipped that one by a girlfriend who hated many of my scents, and got nary a "pee" comment from her. And she was NOT one to hold her tongue, especially if something offended her nose.

Funny you wrote that. I wore Derby tonight and asked my wife "does this smell like old man juice" and she shrieked and said "old WOMAN scent...dont ever wear that...it smells like rotten cologne".

LOL!!!!!!

^^^^^ ha... Think I'll wear it tomorrow. I really liked it last time I wore it. I consider it to be "manly perfume."

Arrived from Surrender to Chance (another good experience with them).

Rankings:

1. Caron PUH. LOVE IT. Similar to ATOH while I like, but I might like this better. The ATOH is nuclear strength and has a sharp note that doesn't agree with me and keeps me from wearing it more often. Caron doesn't have that note, it seems (at least on initial impression). Still needs full wearing to confirm. Also it has a powderiness to it that I am a fan of.

2. Eldo Antiheroes. I like this one. Not a blow you away amazing fragrance, but a nice clean lavender which will be good for work and on days when I want to wear cologne but not be cologne guy.

3. Mouchoir de Monsieur. I like it but has that dated Guerlain thing going on that will keep me from wearing this regularly. I think I like Jicky more though.

4. Kouros. Can't decide if I like it or not. I don't abhor it, and I don't love it. I do see the urinal cake reference, which will probably keep me from wearing this regularly.

5. Cuir Ottoman. I don't know if it shares ingredients, but reminds me of Ambre Sultan. Does not agree with me so I will not pursue this further.
