Mixing oil with normal lather?

Hey guys.
I had an idea the other day. When making lather (be it soap or cream), would it have a positive effect to add oil instead of, or in addiotion to water?

can't say I've heard of it or tried it, but that's not to say it wouldn't work, you'll have to give it a try and report back on the results. I do know some shavers put a drop or two of glycerin into their lather mix for extra moisturising and slickness.

I always add 6 drops of glycerin in my bowl before adding the brush with soap, and is generating an awesome slick lather that can take a lot of water, without feeling runny. It actually adds slickness to the lather, and feels like you have some cream added to the mix. I actually like this more then uberlather.

About oil, I have no clue, but I would assume that the best bet is to put it in the bowl before starting to build lather, like this you can have consistent results. Obviously, if it does build a lather.

You can probably get glycerin in your local pharmacy.

As for oil, your beard is supposed to hydrate, not marinate.

Where can you buy glycerin online? And do they ship to europe? (Norway more precisely)

As Teddyboy suggested, try your local pharmacy, it's generally sold as a remedy for dry skin. It's even stocked here in Australia at the supermarket in the 'hair, medical, grooming etc' aisle

A friend gave me this product, as a gift. It does Not mix with lather....makes the lather dissipate as was stated above....and, this is an expensive item.

Halaien! :wink2:

For glycerin, check your nearest pharmacy, or maybe hobbyist store. It has many uses, and even knowing the lack of interesting items we can find locally, I still would be surprised if you couldn't find any. If you really want to buy online, I see iherb.com sells it. They do ship to Norway, at very reasonable rates in my experience.

I've read about people mixing branded (e.g. T&H) pre-shave oil into their lather, and have good results. I doubt using any kind of oil instead of water would be a good idea, as most creams and soaps are meant to be used with water I doubt they would perform well with zero water. Using oil(s) in addition to water might give good results, but reading about How Pre-shave Oil Works I think you'll be better off using it on your face prior to lathering, rather than in the lather. I have found both grapeseed oil and apricot kernel oil in local grocery stores, these two and others are reported to work well as pre-shave oils.

Sweet! Fellow norwgians :D
So, I went to the pharmacy today. They didn't have glycerin, but they had glycerol. Is it the same?

I don't think you could make a good lather without water. On occasion, I do add glycerin and a couple drops of essential oils to my lather. I have jojoba, avocado, kukui nut, and eucalyptus essential oils. I can make a really mean uber lather with most of my creams.
