Got a new 23c yesterday from Pasteur's Pharmacy on Lexington, today I notice that the bottom plate by the hole where the threaded piece goes through, has some plating issues, it's black and looks like it flaked off. I contacted Merkur and they said since it was purchased so recently to contact vendor. Anyone have experience with returning/exchanging to Pasteur's?

Being in Canada, I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting Pasteurs, but judging from previous threads about eMails to Merkur about bad plating, it would seem that Merkur's answer if it was not just purchased would be that it was caused by your water (i.e. user abuse/misuse).

The question is: If bought at a brick and mortar store and no postage is involved, why not go back to the store?
It better be replaced, by somebody!! I'm so tired of Merkurs crappy standards they allow, from terribly uneven blade gaps considered "within specs from the factory" to their crappy plating, and internal mechanisms that just lock up after a year of using it. We pay good money for these razors and we shouldn't expect anything less then near perfection IMO.

I really hate returning things, so I'm glad it went well for you. Hope this one is in better shape. I'm considering a Slant myself, but jsj_297's comments (and other Merkur complaints) really make me hesitant.

Actually, Merkur is usually pretty good about returns/exchanges. One particular model seemed to be an issue for them, they would refuse returns claiming user misuse, but reports of that stopped as quickly as they started.

my progress came with a 'light" scratch on the handle, it looks more like a buff mark of some kind.
a few days later I noticed a black speck on the head which I gather is a tiny piece of plate missing.
I never returned it cause I brought it from overseas, I thought about it but just decided to use it
