MdC - WOW

I received a tub of MdC today, and all I can say is WOW. Not even 5 swirls with my Polo 10, and I had plenty of gorgeous, thick lather for 3 passes. But, it left me with two small nicks on my cheek - and I never get nicks on my cheek! Not sure if it's because I already shaved earlier today, or didn't do any prep as I was hasty to try this stuff. Either way, it makes some gorgeous, gorgeous lather.

I have some sitting in the cabinet which will come into play next year. Thanks for the early report- I will look forward to hearing of your next shave with MdC.

The price is WOW. Performance is good. Scent is nice. If you have money burning a hole in your pocket.... What the hell go for it. Many other products that are better and cheaper if you dont have money to blow. I have plenty of the stuff and not a hater but find it grossly overpriced for what it is. So many artisan soaps out there that blow MdC away.

MdC was everything I expected, even with all the hype. I do agree there are more affordable products that provide a superior result (like RazoRock Fresco), having said that MdC is still a phenomenal product.

I recently received a jar of MDC. I was expecting to be dissapointed because of all the hype this product gets. I was pleasantly surprised that it lived up to all the hoopla. I could take or leave the scent but the stuff lathers like nothing else I have used.

MdC indeed lathers up like crazy. My brush just looks at this stuff and within seconds there is gobs of lather all over the place.

I must resist...

This soap sure has its aura of exclusivity kicking hard, but that is some serious cash they are fetching for shaving soap. Shaving. Soap.

With Arko and Polmolive sticks in back-stock in my den, not to mention several creams, I can't justify a purchase like this.

I must resist!

Ummmmmm, with a user name of "mdc" i'm pretty sure you are required to have some of this. :001_smile

I recently tried it as well, and love the scent and performance. Got a fougere bath soap as well. Not sure if I would enjoy that scent in the shave soap.

I'm not sold on the whole artisan soap gig. I wasn't impressed by my Mike's in the slightest. I'd actually take Tobs over Mike's at this point.

I tried to resist, but ended up purchasing some last night. At the end of the day I figured if I don't care for it the BST will quickly snatch it up and I can move on.

You do realize that MdC is an artisan soap, right?

Hah, I guess I hadn't paused to think about what an artisan soap is. Since Mikes, QCS, Mystic Waters and Mama Bear are the ones that are generally talked about as "Artisan" soaps, and MdC is so often thrown in with the likes of AdP, Penns, and XPec, I was thinking about it as a high end production soap.

To correct my previous statement, after trying Mike's, I'm not inclined to try other local artisan soaps.

MdC is often thrown in with AdP, Penns, XPec, etc due to the price...e.g. "high end". I am in the MdC is good not great camp. I have some that will likely last forever, not because of the mythical "soapless loading" properties, but because I rarely use it.

Another of my favorite soaps is also an artisan soap, from Germany...Calani. Panna Crema has gathered a group of new fans recently. Of course, Mikes has become the soap du jour lately. QCS, MW and the others you named all have very loyal followings. I wouldn't write off artisans just yet.

If I should have only one soap to shave with Martin de Candre would be a serious contender. I love everthing about it: scent, latherability, slickness, cushion and post shave feel. MdC, mon amour!

I'm only 3 shaves in to my very first jar of MdC (the fougère), and it's already in the Wow! category for me - it beats any other soap I've tried in terms of creaminess, protection and ease of lather, and it leaves my skin feeling great.

Sure, it's relatively expensive - but 200 grams is a lot and you don't need much per shave, and I reckon it's on a similar cost effectiveness to other top-end soaps.

I'd like to try some of the artisan soaps that people mention here, like Mike's, but shipping to the UK (plus £8 post office handling plus 20% VAT on import) makes it prohibitive.

There are many less expensive soaps out there for sure but, not many that can pull a 3 pass shave off with only a six second load. I didn't believe it either until I tried. When you factor that in it's not that expensive.

Yep, I agree - "cheap" and "good value" are not necessarily the same thing.
