MdC and Windsor Samples!!

Just received a sample of MdC scented soap and D.R. Harris Windsor soap from Garry at the Sample Shop! Initial sniff results: MdC smells great, better than I thought it would from some of the comments. Windsor smells good, but not as good as I had thought it might - just not as "bright" as my D.R. Harris Lavendar. At any rate, going to start the lathering process in the morning! Think I will start with the MdC. My brother is going to France in September, and I may try to convince him to go out of his way to get me some if it lives up to its reputation!

Same here...got the Harris Windsor from Garry yesterday. Alas, I started alphabetically this morning and used the Arlington sampler that I also ordered. The latter had a nice, creamy, very slightly citrusy fragrance. Lathers easily. But now that this thread exists, I'll hit the windsor tomorrow and report back.

Please report back! I wanted to get a sample of Arlington, as well, but Garry was out. Was going to compare Arlington with the Windsor; now I can't until I can get a sample of Arlington. Used the MdC this morning (wonderful) and will try the Windsor tomorrow or the day after.

I agree about the Lavender. They all perform well, but there's something about the Lavender that adds a bit more enjoyment to my shave. It may be because my Lavender puck has the strongest scent. Scent-wise my favorites are Lavender, Arlington (wish the scent was stronger), Windsor (glad the scent is not stronger) and Almond. My Almond has no scent that I can detect which is a big negative for me. Glad I bought the Almond stick and not the bowl for that one. Waiting for cooler weather to buy the Marlborough.

EDIT: Just ordered a Marlborough refill puck, WCS deal of the day.

I had a bit of D.R. Harris Almond. Found the lather to be great! Found the scent to be "clean", almost medicinal. I rather liked it but most admit I have not ordered any.

Well, I tried the Windsor this morning. Bear in mind that I'm both a newbie to DE shaving over the past month and also new to DR Harris shaving soaps. I used Arlington yesterday and Windsor, as noted, today. As soaps, they both seem fine. They lather pretty easily and shave fine enough but I truly have trouble discerning its superiority to Proraso and Truefitt and Hill. Indeed, if anything, the lather seems a little more dry. Moreover, the lather seems to settle down quicker. But, before any fanatics jump down my throat, I readily admit that I'm still getting used to it. So that said, on to the fragrance:

Windsor smells like, hmmm, soap. Delicate soap. Candidly, it smells almost identical to the Arlington. Maybe it has more of a grassy, cologne-like fragrance. I'm not saying that I don't like it; rather I'm just saying that I'd be hard pressed to tell them apart. Both are refreshing clean, soapy, and powdery. Maybe it's because they were packed beside each other during shipment. Anyway, are they worth the money? Maybe. After the samplers are finished and I've better gotten the hang of lathering DRH, I'll go back to the Proraso and T&H and see how they all compare. Perhaps a comparison written here thereafter.
