What's new

Martin de Candre source in the U.S. (finally!

Gents,

This looks like a pretty huge step in getting a local source for MdC in the States.

This place, although new, looks like a throwback to the old brick and mortar shops, and from the owner's post, it sounds like they already own some additional retail space in the same building. And apparently he already stocks quite a bit of artisan products as well!

Just mentioning it as one of the first, and unless I'm mistaken, the only - 3rd party with MdC soaps available here in the USA.

Looks like the link got edited out??

My apologies if I've violated some rule or restriction on posting a link to another shave site. Was just trying let people know of a potential U.S.-based source for MdC.

This is something that bother me about B&B. We can't see where it's sold because it links to another site? B&B is clearly the best shaving site on the web. These other sites aren't competition, I can't understand why they can't be linked. I guess it doesn't matter though. Rules are rules.

I believe the link was removed because the owner of that site may have been banned for spamming B&B. This is purely conjecture on my part, but if one were to do a search the site isn't hard to find.

It surprises me, because I heard that a Dutch shop didn't get permission to resell it. It seems that, at least in Europe, MdC only want to sell from their own shop, and not through local resellers.

The link was to another shaving forum which is why I'm assuming it was removed. The name of the shop is Old Town Shaving Company at Stats in Pasadena, CA. It sounds like it might be the same place Joe was talking about in his Italian Barber thread saying he was developing a Razorock soap for them. I'd never heard of them before that but it sounds like it'd be a sweet place to visit if I'm ever on that side of the country.

The post on the other forum shows a number of pictures from inside the store and it's mighty impressive and there is a shelf of MdC.

Lookup the following on facebook...

You can find the photos there.
Really nice store, I'd love to visit.
I sent them a facebook message asking for pricing.

There is no web site and one will not be available for quite some time.
I'm not sure that they even want one as they like the aspect of an old time store selling products as they used to be.

They have a lot of the hard to get products so hopefully they will create a product and price list to mail out.
Damon tells me his internet pricing will be competitive with anyone (store prices are higher) but you have to get internet prices item by item at this time.

You have to PM Damon through the other forum and wait for a response, or call and wait for a call back.

I ordered two of the MdC today.

Special limited time deal of $35 each plus normal shipping prices (he told me that this is below his cost) for members of the other forum that is named in the facebook page. Retail price in his store is about $68 each.

So I'm at about $84 including shipping from CA to AZ for two 200g jars.

I've never tried this soap but figure at this price I'll have no problem selling it if I don't like it.
I'll update this thread when I receive it to let you all know how it goes.

MdC still has no desire or need to sell outside of it's brick and morter stores.

I'm guessing that he is having someone local buy it and ship it to him in bulk, or that he's ordering it himself from MdC but ordering very very large orders to save on shipping. The store retail price of $68 would pass this cost along.

The $35 internet forum price will not stick around long.
Also, I'm told there are also no guarantees that he continues to sell this product in the future.

I should get my order sometime early next week.
I'll let you all know what I think when it arrives.
If all goes well then you might want to place an order soon before the price goes up.

I don't think it is from the research I did. If I'm wrong I'll contest the charge on my card and be whole again. I'll let you know for sure in a few days.

Did some additional research just to be sure.
There is a lot of information on the internet and I'm pretty good with a computer.
I'm not going to post anyone's personal business information here or get into any details, but the more research I do the more confident I am that this is totally legit.

Has anyones card been charged?

Why not paypal?

I don't trust my bank, and definetely don't trust giving card info to someone?

Anyone received a tracking number?
