I finally found my old Slim at my parent's house. Second quarter 1978, Y date code. 
It had a blade in it, unfortunately, but otherwise looked in decent shape.
Then I looked closer. Crud under the baseplate.
Well, I'm out of town at the moment, in Chicago for an exam tomorrow. One of my relaxation techniques has always been to do something completely not related to the topic at hand. Grabbed a pizza, watched some hockey, and put on a pot for some hot water. Shaving is high on the list- very Zen.
Commence the swishing. First pass looked like leaves in the bottom of the pot, as did the second and third. Took four passes and an hour to get it running clean again.
However, now I have an old friend back in the fold. Now to shave with it again.
