Making your own AS balm

So, I've done this a few times in my younger years but I don't actually even know if it's a good idea haha. What I would do, is just take a bit of Old Spice after shave, mix it with a small amount of unscented lotion (I think I used Cetaphil as it's non-colloidal or some thing of that sort) and applied that to my face. I've been thinking about trying it again, just for fun haha :001_tongu, has anyone else ever done this? And is it even a good idea for that matter lol

It's funny you should post this, because I was planning on putting up my recipe for AS shave balm today. So to answer your question, yes, I've done it!

I do it a bit differently however. For my method, you will need:

1 sandwich sized (or thereabouts) ziplock bag
13-15 grams (about one level Tablespoon US) of Goat's Milk Multi-Base Lotion (buy the 1 pound tub for cheap!)
70-100 ml Witch Hazel - I prefer Dickensons. Yes, the smelly stuff with alcohol - it'll be fine, trust me!
Scent if you want it. Example 3 ml Old Spice Scent oil concentrate from one of the web suppliers, or a somewhat larger amount of cologne of your choice.

Directions:
Put all the stuff in the ziplock and seal it. Smoosh it around until it is well mixed, adding lotion base or Witch Hazel until you get the consistency you want. Run the bag over the corner of a table to chase the mixture all into one corner of the bag, then cut a corner off the bag to dispense into a container. A pump bottle works very well for this. Check beauty suppliers.

FYI - I have substituted Ogalalla Bay Rum AS for the Witch Hazel in this recipe, and it works great! No longer do you need to shake your Ogalalla to keep the oils supended!:001_wub:

Klopstick... that sounds like a great recipe - I'm definitely going to try this at some point. Unfortunately, I just bought a few bottles of the Zihr asb that I swear by, so it might be a while until i get to this, but thanks for posting!

(On second thought, maybe I should just go ahead and try the recipe and use the Zihr for travel...hmmm)

Klopstick: That Nature's Garden is a good place to know about--thanks for the link!

Yet another reason I love B&B...widens my world.
