London's Bathecary

I will be in DC early in the fall, and will have some time to kill, and a fair amount at that. London's Bathecary in Charlottesville, VA is about 2 hrs away according to Google Maps. That's a hike, but if it is a must visit shop, I can probably swing the trip. Will I be making a mistake if I don't go?

I have never actually been to LB, but C-ville is a great historic place, if you have never been. U Va and Monticello are well worth seeing on their own. I would say that C-ville is a bit more than 2 hours away, but it is a pleasant enough drive. Watch your speed, especially in the last 20 miles or so. The local police tend to lie in wait, I am sure as a revenue producer.

I am not saying LB is not worth the trip! I am tempted myself. Not cheap though!

*gulp* So is it safe to assume that what is available from them online is also available in store?

Mostly and kinda. They have a habit of leaving out of stock items on the website. So, it can be a roll of the dice. All of the stuff is in store however.

At the very least you will get your hands of lots of products, and can actually sift through the scents and such to see if you like. That would make the trip worth it to me.

+1 for Monticello. For you Brits who may not know, it's the estate of Thomas Jefferson. It's got all sorts of neat older stuff in the house and on the grounds. I find the place cool, but I can't say how the trip will be for somebody outside the US. There are certainly much older places in Europe, but it doesn't get much more historical in the USA.

I have purchased many products from London's Bathecary through their web site never knowing that they have 2 stores in Charlottesville, and I live 30 miles away! The trip to Charlottesville would be a great trip not only for the store, but for all the reasons other people have given (try to see the University of Virginia. I don't know how long you can spend there, but you can easily pass a couple of days there. If your travel includes a weekend and there is a UVa football game in town, you can expect some traffic, and please take to heart the post about following speed limits!

Let us know what you do!
