What's new

L'Occitane Cade

Well HELP.... I have almost made it a year without adding any soaps to my rotation:w00t: (except a "free" stick of Valobra which took its place with 11 other "can't live withouts" in my daily rotation):sneaky2: But now I have discovered a source for Sir Irisch Moos stick which I've gotta have and am ready to go ahead with the threads title bsicallly because 1; I've never tried a cade product in any form and 2; I like the bowl:lol::lol: even tho I've never even pesonaly known anyone who has used it, just reviews.

What do you gents think about this soap? Guess I'm really asking for a :thumbup1: or:thumbdown?????????

Thanks in advance

I hate to tell you this but it's an excellent soap. It's part of my lengthy rotation. Lots of lather and plenty of cushion. I have had my bowl for over 3 years and it's still 80% full.

I recently had some and initially got some great shaves out of it, but after a while it started to irritate my face. Sold it. The scent however is pretty awesome. Certainly worth a try.

Right now it is my top choice in soap....really excellent lather, low key scent. Puck alone is $10 at the store...so a great price. The bowl seems very expensive to me...but the soap can spoil you for some of your other favorites.

I can't seem to get great shaves from it. The scent is nice but for me the lather tends to be a little thin and not too slick ...plus it was somewhat drying...YMMV I attribute it to my technique with this soap. Perhaps I didn't load enough on the brush or get the water ratio just right. ..or maybe I just expected too much based on some of the reviews? Who knows...IN my experience when people rave about a certain product and it doesn't work for me it's likely something I'm doing wrong and not the product.

EDIT: Spent a few more seconds loading the brush and used a little less water and was able to produce Pre de' Provence/Tallow English Fern type lather quality....this is good stuff. My problems were a result of operator error!

I've been trying to reduce the quantity of my soaps and creams, while moving up in quality. I recently traded for a tub of Trumper Rose soap, and it's fabulous.

I just may have to try Cade. I got a sample of their shave cream a number of years ago and was so unimpressed that I never considered the soap.

Will the puck fit other soap bowls, like the Trumper bowl? The stainless steel Cade bowl is kinda nice, but pretty pricey, especially if I don't know if the soap will work for me. Do most of you Cade fans have the bowl?

I got it when the aluminum bowl was like $28, and came with the puck

IMO, CADE SS is by far the best non-talloow soap available, and is the equivalent of many of the best tallow soaps (to me, only AOS, EF and MWF are clearly better). The bowl is pretty sweet, too.

The CADE AS Splash is also excellent, as are many of the L'Occitane EdT's (I particularly like the Eau des BAUX, Eau de L'Occitan, and Eau de Vetyver).

I recommend that you stay away from the SC, however. It is the only L'Occitane product to my knowledge that seems to be almost universally disliked.

Enjoy!

I do think you need to load the brush a bit more....I get a very creamy dense lather out of CADE...and it feels moisturizing to me. I face lather only.

As to the bowl...I did not invest in one (it does remind me of the Jetson's though), just used a latte mug and it is perfect (and free).

I find CADE better than all my other soaps including Tabac for that super dense creamy slick lather.

CADE should be on everyone's try list in my view.

I'll echo many of those above, it's a great soap and definitely worth a try. I don't use it every day but I work it into the rotation fairly frequently.

I loved the scent, but also found that it irritated my face. I seem to have this problem with many of the triple-milled soaps.

+1 .......no love for the Cade SC. Avoid it!

I've got to try the soap as well.

I own l'Occitane Eau des Beaux and Badian colognes, and highly recommend them. Very nice scents, and a good value for the price.

Malik,

Try face-lathering like this:

1. Soak the brush and the top of the puck while you shower.
2. Shake the brush well, 4 or 5 hard shakes. Pour the water off the puck.
3. Swirl the brush around on the puck for 20 seconds or more, loading up the brush well.
4. Apply lather to your face and work it in. At this point it will probably be too thick.
5. Dip the end of the brush and work some more water into the lather on your face.

Repeat step 5 until the lather feels right.

If it's too thin and it is somewhat drying, that means you have too much water and not enough soap.

Good luck!

Picked up a another puck at the mall this evening and will give it another shot. Thanks guys.

Just to footstomp, for anyone who trips across this thread: the difference between the cream and soap is vast, and it's all in favor of the soap. Do not let the cream and its (deservedly) poor reviews mislead you: the soap is great--it's very much worth a try.

I love the scent, but it doesn't hold a candle to CO Bigelow in terms of shave quality (at least for me).

Has anyone noticed that they're out of stock on their official website? Not to start a panic, but there aren't plans to discontinue the shaving soap, are there?

It seems like there's been a rash of reformulations/discontinuations lately.

I noticed:scared: I really spent some time finding the bowl and soap together and poonjaji found the soap and I bought the bowl from there official website, (they had the bowl0:w00t:
Anyway I'm good now, thanks all
