L'Occitane Cade Bowl Corrosion issues?

Can anyone comment on the L'Occitane Cade Bowl Corrosion issues? A few of the reviews and comments here and there indicate that there was/is a problem with the bowls corroding. I like the way they look and I'm thinking about purchasing one but not if this is still an issue... I took this quote from one of the reviews in 7/09:

"The container starts to 'corrode' a little. Dark black spots start appearing at the bottom of the bowl after using for only a month (I wipe and dry the container after each use so I'm not letting it sit in damp/wet areas for too long). I talked to the lady in one of the stores and she said that their newer containers were better designed and shouldn't have that problem. I didn't buy one so I can't confirm how much of that is true."

Any experience with the new bowls? If so, how can you determine whether a store is stocking the new ones or the old ones that corrode?

1. I'm pretty sure the new bowl addressed the corrosion issue
2. If you've seen the old bowl, the new one is easy to spot since it doesn't come wiht a puck of soap, but it's still like $30. Plus, it's taller.
3. I don't think any of the stores would stokc the old bowl, since they've basically admitted it's flawed and below their standards.

Personally, I think the corrosion is going to look cool. I have an old one.

I've had mine for at least 6 months, maybe more, and it still looks like brand new. I assume that mine is the "new" version -- it was $28, without the SS.

Expensive, yes, but IMHO, worth it.

Thanks guys, great information. I plan on picking up a bowl at the local L'Occitane shop....gotta love it when a great product like this is available locally :001_cool:

The new ones are anodized, so they have a kind of frosted finish to the aluminum. If it's just shiny aluminum stay away from it. I have the old style, and it's a little gross. Really this shouldn't be a huge issue though. I've stopped soaking my soaps, the way that everyone on here seems to encourage you to do, and I'm using a wetter brush to build my lather. It charges faster, and uses less soap. Better method all around, and should keep the bowl more or less dry. I doubt you could even find one of the old ones now. I picked mine up in Paris about 6 years ago, I think they changed them shortly after that.

When I got my puck of Cade, there were still issues with the bowl corroding so I decided to put it in an old C&E wooden bowl that I had and it fit perfectly. The new bowls shouldn't have the problem anymore and when I go through my puck I will get the aluminum bowl because it is so good looking.

im not sure what bowl ive got - but ive never had any corrosion issues (Im guessing its the new one)

I still have it. I still use it. It looks awesome! The whole inside is a dark dark gray. The outside just looks weathered.

Blast from the past! haha

About the topic: Mine is still in perfect condition. No rust, no tea stains, just a few water spots.

It didn't happen :)

Of course, a photo might change my mind. :)
