La Faulx by Atelier Durdan Pass Around…..

What a phenomenal read! This noob missed out on the pass around, but with your narratives, I felt as if I was accompanying you in your shaving dens. Thank you.

This razor is clearly a labor of love, and it's evident that much tuning was done before it was ready for release.

I run a small, specialist company which caters to discerning customers - much like those in this community. Many in my industry design by the numbers, and consider themselves done.

The last 1% (the tuning) is where we create the magic. It's evident that Mr. Durdan and his evaluation group refused to call this project complete until every detail was addressed.

Thx, guys... I got an email back from Augustin... at the moment, the lead time is around 3 months after an order is placed until shipment.

Is there a photo somewhere that shows some close up photos of the different finishes? I'm wondering how machined vs. basic polished vs premium polished.

I just placed an order for a bronze La Faulx, in a machined finish. I asked Augustin if he’d be willing to create an antiqued finish similar to Wolfman’s offering. To by great delight he agreed to work with me on the project. If all goes well, he’ll offer the finish as a permanent option.

I may be late to the party but is there anyway one can jump onto this pass around before I commit to purchasing it? It’s a hefty price tag on something that may not work for me.

The pass around is long over. The price tag is definitely steep, but worth it in my opinion. You’ll have no trouble recouping your investment if you decide to sell. The current turnaround time is over three months.

Here’s my review of the razor:

There are separate threads for each of the Atelier Durdan razors but the La Faulx is my favourite at the moment so I’ll drop this here. Augustin sent a newsletter out yesterday about the past year and what he has in mind for 2024. I think it’s very interesting and really unique for a razor manufacturer to share some of his financial data with customers. You all might be interested in this if you aren’t subscribed to his newsletters….

Dear clients and traditional shaving enthusiasts,

We are thrilled to present to you the summary of our 2023 year and to give you a glimpse of our exciting projects for 2024. This year marked a major turning point in our development, thanks to your valuable collaboration.

In 2023, we introduced two new models of premium razors, La Faulx and Vestige, which were warmly received by the traditional shaving community. We would like to express our deep gratitude for the constructive feedback you have provided us, which has allowed us to significantly improve these razors. Additionally, we expanded our range by offering machined, polished, and medieval finishes, to meet a wider variety of our clients' preferences. Finally, we launched the in-house manufacturing of leather goods, as we believe in the nobility of this material and wish to incorporate it into our products as much as possible.

All these improvements would not have been possible without the arrival of Chloé, whose commitment and versatility have been essential assets for our company. At the moment, our balance sheet does not allow us to increase our salaries, but we are determined to generate more margin to value our work. Our goal is not to become a large production company, but rather to preserve our craftsmanship with a limited production of about 4 razor heads per day, if all goes well.

Here are some figures to shed light on our 2023 year:
• Turnover excluding VAT 2023: about 90,000 €
• Number of orders: 292
• Number of razor variants: over 1000

This wide range of variants reflects our desire to offer you the razor that perfectly meets your expectations. However, this requires considerable investments in terms of time and resources, which is why our current ranges will only undergo a few updates before becoming definitive. I am thinking in particular of the addition of a "+++" adjustment plate for the Vestige model, as well as a 2.0 mm gap (GAP) for the Le Maurice model.

Moving on to our exciting projects for the year 2024: Rather than launching new models permanently, we have chosen to maintain our existing production with these three razors. However, we will work on the design of exceptional limited edition models, manufactured and sold in stock. We are also collaborating with local artists and craftsmen to offer you authentic and unique content.

Furthermore, we plan to offer leather cases for each of our razors, as well as the option to customize tailor-made cases to accommodate your favorite travel razor.

We look forward to sharing this new year with you and to continue offering you the highest quality products for an exceptional shaving experience. Your support and feedback are invaluable to us, and we sincerely thank you for being part of our community.

Stay tuned for more information on our new products and collaborations coming in 2024.

I wanted to bump this thread because I find the La Faulx such a pleasure to use. I know it's on the expensive side of wet shaving razors, so buyer beware.

I hate having to use those qualifiers. There are lots of inexpensive options out there and all of them are mentioned here on B&B in a whole host of threads. But Augustin is making a special AC razor, at least, for me. I've said it many times but it might be the best razor I've ever used and I do own several quite nice ones.

Mine has the "Classic" base plate and the efficiency is right where I need it.... 12 hour shaves that are smooth, relaxing, comfortable yet close... For me, it was worth every penny.

It doesn't hurt that the bronze looks so nice. For just the shaving part, I'm sure the much less expensive stainless steel model would work just as well and have zero maintenance... though, I haven't had to do anything to mine except finish cleaning the top cap with a micro cloth I use for the final stage when hand polishing with Simichrome. And that was one time, to take off two water spots.

Received the ++ yesterday - what a debut outing. Perhaps the best debut of any razor I’ve tried so far - the smoothness, comfort, and efficiency were sublime with a 5th use Kai Protouch MG ….

This is gong to be fun 😎

I just ordered a La Faulx SS head yesterday.... in the basic polish finish. It will be part of my travel kit, mounted on a Timeless Ti Crown handle. I got another "classic" base plate. I get 12 hour shaves with my bronze "Premium Polish" La Faulx Classic... I expect more of the same with SS.
