Kimson: The not-so-poor man's Thater

I just received my new genuine horn-handled Kimson 28mm silvertip brush. It cost me $111 including shipping and, in my humble opinion, is a match for, or superior to, any 3-band brush on the market (including Thater, Shavemac, Kent, etc)! The beautiful and well-weighted handle was impressive right out of the plush gift box. The next thing I noticed was the incredible softness of the tips and the third thing I noticed was the high density. Nobody I was aware of combined ultra-soft tips and a high density knot like Thater - until now. The knot is dense enough to work well with soaps/croaps, yet the tips are light as air. I tested it on QCS's Lavender cream (croap) and it quickly produced copious lather.

The bloom is a bit odd-looking; it expanded like a fan, but the knot is definitely a bulb. It is still drying at the moment, but I expect it to expand even further.

Congrats. That's a very handsome handle. What picture do you thick gets the color of the tips most accurately? They look platinum white in one, and three different shades of yellow/off-white in the others.

The shape of the knot looks something like a blend between an old Lee 26mm Silvertip (before he started marketing as M&F) that was reputedly old stock Rooney Heritage 3 band (ultra-dense fan that bloomed stupidly huge) and a TGN 30mm Grade A Bulb, leaning more towards the bulb.

I have the QED version. I agree this is a dense and soft brush and the horn handle is very attractive - but I still view the Thäter 3 band and also the SR 3824 as softer and more comfortable on the face.

Very beautiful brush. All the Kimson brushes I have seen so far are great looking brushes that command at least some respect compared to the big name brushmakers.

Josh: That abalone brush is going to be my next purchase from Kimson. I ordered a 28mm knot, but what I received is 31mm (maybe 30.5mm). The loft is 56mm.
