What's new

Kiehl's. German for worthless.

So I got a free sample of Kiehl's "ultimate" (latin for last) brushless shaving cream... and I'll tell you something. That was worse than shaving dry. I know that sounds silly... you're telling me "Jett... anything is better than shaving dry"... no my friends and neighbors... nothing was worse than this (you can tell by my artful use of the elipses). I put the stuff into my hand and was very surprised what happened. It was supposed to have no scent. It had a scent alright... a scent that reminded me of summer time. A scent that made me think of Spring and soccer and the beach (I abhor soccer by the way so this wasn't a pleasant recollection) but I like the beach I guess. Why? Why would this scent make me think of this? Because it smelled and had the consistency of... you guessed it... SPF sun tan lotion. Like coppertone. And if it would have been sun screen I wouldn't have complained very much. It soaked into my skin almost immediately as a good sunscreen should do. After the 3rd application of this goop I realized I had almost used a quarter of the travel size bottle. I armed my hand with my trusty merkur HD long handle barber pole with my ammunition (a 2nd use feather blade) set my blade at thirty degrees and began my slow descent. The side of my face screamed with horror. For the first time I felt AND HEARD my skin being scraped in a most unfortunate and grotesque manner. I made it to the bottom and wondered how this had happened. I looked up for blood but there was none. Being a Marine and never retreating or giving up (and also being not very bright) I decided to do a second pass. By the way. I had used argon oil as a preshave as well. You can practically shave with just argon oil. The second pass was almost as bad as the first. Not as painful but even less productive. I looked at my blade and it was covered with, on first inspection, could only look like elmer's glue... dried to a hard semi-clear paste after my seven year old had used it to make me a macaroni painting. I immediately loaded my Proraso into my antique Old Spice mug and tried to undo the damage. As I began the shave again using proraso something still didn't feel right. I looked at my "rinsed blade". I opened it and there was the elmer's. I used hot water for 30 seconds and it still clung like a child to its mother's neck. I had to use my shave brush and deplete my hot water heater to get it off. I put the proraso back on and shaved normally. Like a boss, as usual, it came out perfect with some irritation on my right side from the elmers glue. So in closing... Don't waste your money on Kiehl's "ultimate" brushless shaving cream. I read some misleading reviews online... I can't believe anyone would use this stuff even once. It is crap.

I agree. I tried it once and it is hands down the worst shaving cream I ever tried. Don't they test their products before the release them?

Thanks for the heads up. I've been thinking of trying some kiehl's face moisturizers for my rather picky skin (my face seems to have Goldilocks syndrome... everything is either too greasy feeling, or not moisturizing enough). But now at least I know to steer away from this if they try and upsell me on it.

Have you tried proraso cream? I absolutely love it and it leaves my skin feeling amazing. Also do you have hard or soft water? I have super soft water and the proraso green really does the trick.

Hate it.
It is the only product I didn't muscle through. It went straight into the trash.

Proraso is my stand by. Definitely awesome stuff. I supposedly have hard water, but I have had no ill effects of it. I haven't had a soap or cream fail to lather for me. Even Williams was no problem.

Been trying some other stuff off and on, like Mama bear soap (lit me up, no good), and I've got a bunch of Mikes samples on the way. I'm excited to try those.

what are these mike's samples. Where did you get them? I'm over RAD and now am looking for cremes and soaps.

Hi Patrickmjett, completely off-topic, but couldn't help but smile when I read your signature line. I haven't heard that quote from the Gracie family in a long time.
