Kent Brushes - Good Buy?

The only brush I have is the one that came with my eShave starter kit (I have a feeling it's going to fall apart soon) and I'm looking for something better. A couple of chemists along my road sell Kent brushes, but are they a good brand or should I be looking somewhere else. If I get a brush should I consider higher quality or just get a standard badger brush rather than superfine/silvertip?

My impression from this forum is that Kent badgers are great brushes, Kent boars (VS series) are crap. There was a thread about a Kent boar not too long ago, it didn't look good. I have the synthetic Infinity brush myself, and it's a bargain if you like the size and don't mind synthetics.

I have a Kent BK8 that's one of my favorite brushes, very soft. However I wouldn't call it a great brush for face lathering,so if face lathering is what you're into you might want to try a Simpson Duke 3.

Kent brushes (the badger ones) are top shelf and deserve to be in every shaver's brush rotation.

They are too soft for me to use them as a face lathering brush but for building a lather in a bowl there are very few that are even in the same league with them.

You definitely need to step up to a better grade of brush. The Kent BK8 is a good brush and you can probably buy it at a much better price than what your chemist sells it for. Check out feelunique.com.

Other brushes I would suggest (and which I prefer to the Kent) are the Truefitt & Hill Silvertip Style 1 in size "large" and the T & H Classic silvertip in size "large". B&B'ers get a discount by entering the code bb13 when they order from T&F's website.

Thanks for the replies. I use a bowl for lathering right now so I should be ok. I'll look around at prices. My current brush has given no problems but a strand or two have started to fall out each day so I'm looking around. Silvertip brushes are expensive either way, so what's the real advantage?

The 8 is great for bowl and face lathering.

Don't be afraid of the talk of "too floppy" or "not for face lathering". it works for hard soaps and face lathering with no issues.

+1 for what Turtle said! I love my Kent BK8!!! The lather is unreal!

Kent boars (VS series) are crap
and then some.

I'm wating on a Kent H8 just about half price off Amazon, I went with free postage (four weeks delivery). I know they have a different hair in the Horn range so it may be a little stiffer than the White / Black range.

I don't have a kent but Da Vinci 290 can be bought in the same price range and I cant imagine a better brush

My regular brush is a BLK 8 and I just can't fault it, handles everthing, hard and soft soap, creams, perfect for bowl lathering and does just fine for face lathering too.

The peer pressure...I just ordered the B&B Omega Boar from WCS, it is still shipping. I was just thinking about what my next brush should be. I was thinking Simpson, Kent, Da Vinci. Happened on this thread among a dozen others about those brushes. Found the BK8 for $119 @ feelunique.com. Pulled the trigger. I am 2 weeks in, have 3 brushes, 4 soaps, 4 different blades, 2 after shaves.

You defo need more of everything. With out it you'll never make it to the BST :biggrin1:

I might ask for the BK8 as a b-day gift it's just a bit too pricey for me to justify . I bought a new brush just over a week ago as I was in C&E, it's made by Edwin Jagger and feels great and it's far easier to get a good thick lather going. I used to like a thin layer but now I've got a real brush I'm not going back.
