Just got back from the antique store! Restoration question

Hey all,
I just got back from an antique store and I got 3 razors. First was a late 30's Tech, second was a SE Ever ready, and an Open comb gillette which is in some pretty rough shape. It was cheap and I thought it might be fun to restore. While the finish is pretty good, the comb has bent corners, one side is bent entirely. Is there anything you guys can tell me about it and whether or not this is fixable? In the store it seemed doable but now I'm not so sure. Here's the pics:

Looks like you couldn't hurt trying to straighten it yourself, but then I'm no expert, I've always thought about taking things like that to a jeweler. Just a thought

Even if you heat them up with a torch, there is a 50% chance (as reported by Cooncatbob) they will break when you try bending them back. You might put a blade in and see if the bent teeth pose a problem, if not just use it as is. Or consider the risk and try to bend them back, just be sure to report your results. Good luck!

on edit: I see that the razor is a Gillette clone, so IMO, I would try to bend them back.

If it were me I would junk that clone head and keep the cool hex handle. You can easily pick up another Gillette 102 Old Type head or a complete one with a ball end handle for dirt cheap.

Just my opinion. Nothing to lose if you want to beat, bang and bend on that one just to see if you can make something good happen to that head.

It came in a box with one of those blade boxes that says gillette on it and is filled with gillette blades so I figured it was a gillette. Oh well…
The hex handle is pretty sweet. I'll clean it up and see what I can so with it. I was looking forward to trying an OC but even if I get it all straightened out I doubt it will be a good representation of what vintage OCs are like.

Yes definitely a Gillette clone and as others have said it will most likely crack when trying to bend the teeth back. Still...it might not so why not give it a try! I agree with others keep the handle anyway and if the teeth crack pick up a new one. Good luck ;)

The teeth on that head should go back into place and some heat will indeed help, there is always a risk but on the 'Old Type' heads such as this one, the head base plates were pressed from brass sheet, so are quite malleable.

It's an entirely different story with most 'New' type heads - these were cast and in every case that I've tried, I've ended up snapping the tooth. Especially disappointing when done on an Open Comb Aristocrat!

Give it a try, if it snaps, those base plates are pretty common and you'll easily pick up another.

+1 on Dave's comment. Old type heads can be adjusted with a little heat but sadly, NEW's don't stand up well with that.......I know, I've got a graveyard of razors that didn't stand that test.
