What's new

Just arrived yesterday - van cleef and arpels midnight in paris

So after an excruciatingly long 3 day wait my latest blind buy has finally arrived. All I can say is WOW! WOW WOW WOW! This is really an amazing fragrance. It was actually another blind buy for me and honestly one of my best and most surprising ones yet. I knew absolutely nothing about MIP before not even two weeks ago. I just happened to see it on fragrantica where someone had just reviewed it. I spent a few days looking into it and finally decided I had to have it. Everything about it is amazing. The bottle is beautiful. Dark and purple with constellations all over one side of it. I really cant think of anything else right off hand that has a bottle as nice as this. Many people compared this to Bvlgari Black and I can definitely understand why. But it also reminds me a lot of Escada Magnetism  which is another favorite of mine. Its like a perfect blend of those two. Like if Black knocked Magnetism up they're love child would be MIP. It has all of the grape like smell that I love in Magnetism and none of the rubber (i know its tea but it smells like rubber) smell that I am not too fond of in Black. Its so elegant and refined I really cant believe I got a 4.2oz bottle for like $42. Longevity is great. I tried it all evening after getting it yesterday and today for work and its been going strong since 7am (after 1pm now). Sillage is great as well. Had 2 people from work inquire as to my new smell today. So overall I am extremely pleased. I would highly recommend for everyone who hasn't had to opportunity to try this to do so soon. This one will be getting used very often.

I love MiP!
It's ranked no 2 on the Top 10 list.

I have the EDP and find it creamier than EDT but both are awesome.

Been a long time since I gave this one a sniff. I think I recall preferring Bvlgari Black, but I should retry this one since it has been probably ~2 years since I gave it a whirl.

I own both BB and MIP.

I find MIP to be more elegant, refined. BB is more raw. If BB is is a Ferrari, MIP is a Rolls Royce.

I find a place for both in my wardrobe and really enjoy wearing both.

I agree.

MIP EDT in the fall/spring for me.
MIP EDP in the winter for me.
Bulgari Black is a rough sharper edition of MIP - not as elegant as MIP.
DHI is an even more gourmand like edition of MIP, and I also love that frag for fall and winter time.

I have not smelled it. Nowhere around me carries it. I hate Bvlgari Black, and considering so many people compare the two, I never bothered ordering a decant. I am still curious though.

I may blind-buy the EDP version of this. I currently really like Dior Homme, Dior Homme Intense, Pure Malt/Havane - does MIP have any similarities to these and do you think I will like it?

Unadan - I don't think it has any similarities to any of the ones you've mentioned, but popular opinion suggests that if you like DH or DHI, you'll like MiP.

I think it has more in common with DHI than any of the others, but that's only because I find the others all very loud, and MiP is a lot softer.

MiP is the drag that got me into this hobby.

so elegant and refined, yet powdery and simple. Some find too feminine, but in my opinion it depends on your taste.

Still wearing it often. And the bottle is a pleasure to look at.

Great bottle and nice vanilla scent. I don't care for the rubber note, but it is done better here than in Bulgari Black.

There isn't a rubber note in Bvlgari Black - but a tea note that smells like rubber. You can find the same thing in Annick Goutal's Duel.

Midnight In Paris doesn't smell at all masculine. But I like it all the same. As a recreational astronomer, I think the constellations on the bottle are really neat.

Renato
