What's new

Join me for a week of French soaps.

I am going to do a week of French soaps.

Care to join me and post your results here?

I'll start tomorrow, Jan 4th.

It will be fun. I just realized that I have 5 French soaps. :blushing:

I'm going to use Lothantique in the morning.

I need a break from shave sticks, so I'm in.

Will be using:

CADE
Pre d Provence
Provence Sante Verlain

edit: Oh yeah, Monsavon. Forgot that one.

IN!

I'll do both soaps and razors.

In no particular order, I'll hit the following:
  • L'Occitane Cade
  • Lothantique
  • Pre de Provence
  • Institute Karite
I'll be switching between a TI 6/8 Egyptian Sheaf and 5/8 Le Canadien.

Scott (of Rasage Poulin) would be proud.

Way to step it up a notch Brian.

The soaps I'll be using:
  1. Lothantique
  2. Pre de Provence
  3. Institute Karite
  4. Monsavon
  5. Cade

I don't know if I'm going to use the Cade, it makes its way into my rotation anyway.

Very interesting. Right now I only have Provence Sante Green Tea, Monsavon, and I think I've got a few shaves worth of a Pre de Provence sample. I'm in, at least for a few days.

Me too! In no particular order; Cade, Provence Sante, Pre de Provence, Institut Karite, and eShave Mandarin. Great shaves coming up.

Regards, Todd

I can't go 7 days without tallow, but will definitely enjoy Provence Sante Green tea and Cade at least once each.

I lathered up Lothantique this morning, followed it with Pitralon AS and then Lothantique EDT.

I think I'm going to use it again tomorrow. I really wish this soap preformed as well as my favorite soaps because I really like the smell. I have read that it smells like fresh cut grass but I have never been able to detect that aroma. I get a very fresh, clean soapy scent with (maybe) a hint of citrus. I am not that great at describing scent so I could be way off.

Day one

Institut Karite and 5/8 Le Canadien. So first of all thanks to SullyBob, because I wouldn't have reached for the IK this morning without playing along in this thread. I had a really close shave yesterday morning so typically I wouldn't shave until tonight, but I did anyway. Finished with Alum > witch hazel > Khiel's aftershave balm.

With the IK I tend not to use it because it smells a little perfumey out of the pot. Much nicer when I shave and quite enjoy it as it lingers post shave. I keep forgetting that part though, which is why I don't use it as often as I should. Great lather and slickness with lots of protection.

I definitely need to touch up the blade, but I completed the shave because the soap was performing well.

Looking forward to Day two. 6/8 Egyptian Sheaf and.....???

Oh sweet, I forgot eShave was French - ooh la la!

M - Provence Sante Green Tea
T - Lothantique Le Collectionneur
W - Pre de Provence
Th - eShave Avocado Oil & Linden
F - Monsavon
Sa - Provence Sante Verlaine
Su - Repeat of my favorite from Mon-Sat!

Pre de Provence this morning. Haven't used it in 2 weeks so I screwed the lather up by using too much water. Started over, used less water, and it was all good. I spent about 30 seconds loading the brush and face lathered for about one minute. The amount of cushion with PDP is great. 3 passes + touchup and I was done. Used a new Feather this morning and followed the shave with PDP. Didn't really need the balm but used it anyway to get another whiff of the scent. I think I'll use PDP again tommorow and use Cade The rest of the week.

I wish this soap performed better, too. It is fine soap, but it doesn't transcend to the "rock star" level of performance. The scent is nice - there most certainly isn't any fresh cut grass in there ... maybe grass smells different in France?

Omega Stripey Pure Badger
PRE DE PROVENCE
Musgo Real ASB

My best razor/blade combination. Pure Badger brushes just don't get enough credit. This brush is stiff enough to quickly make a huge amount of lather and yet it softens up to make lather application a real pleasure. I stopped using Musgo Real creme because it turned my skin red without shaving. The ASB almost ruined a wonderful shave because of the reaction to my skin. I will never use Musgo Real again - yet I love the smell.

These French soaps are perfect for touchup. By the time I finish my 2 passes, my skin is so soft and pliable that I can take several minutes for touchup without worrying about razor burn - especially with this razor/blade combo. I never use any AS treatment when I use these soaps. It's winter, and dry skin is a real problem, so I decided to use the MR. Dumb.
