Jack Black versus Kiehl's

I went to Sephora today and sampled the Jack Black face wash, moisturizer with SPF 20 and the scrub. I liked all three, from the feel on my hands, but they're, by my standards, expensive and I don't want to spend money on something I won't like.

I haven't tried anything by Kiehl's, but they have a store close to me. I know their products are similar in price to Jack Black.

Does anyone have any experience with either or both of these product lines?

I have Jack Black spf 20 moisturizer and its not very good at all...doesn't help with dry skin and its over priced!

CeraVe is way better

I should have mentioned that I have EXTREMELY oily skin to the point where I think a moisturizer is probably a bad idea. I just sort of like the idea, I guess. Probably foolish.

Actually, it's essential that the cleanser is good for oily skin. I have had a lot of problems with cleansers being too wimpy.

I'm an unabashed Kiehls fan. I use the facial fuel cleanser, the facial fuel anti-aging cream, the sunscreen, and the avocado eye treatment. I love them all.

I went to the Kiehl's store. Unfortunately, the face wash contains sulfates, which I try to avoid.

Does anyone have any fondness for Monsieur Black?

I love just about all of jack black products. I love the face scrub, turbo wash, and the dry erase cream. I am the opposite of u and have very dry skin.

I like Kiehls' stuff, but I'm not sure the Facial Fuel wash is all that good for oily skin. My skin is very oily in the summer and more combo in the winter and I've been using Facial Fuel on & off since the end of the summer....yes the large bottle is incredibly long lasting...and I don't think it works all that well on my skin. I like the Jack Black stuff a lot too, but again not sure they have a face wash that works for me. I prefer Neutrogena's acne wash although that can be a bit too drying to use morning & night in the winter. Lately I've been alternating with Neutrogena and some African Black soap or activated charcoal/shea soap with pretty good results.

I just placed an order for Kiehls Facial Fuel face wash and the moisturizer. I will let you know how it turns out. Should be here by the weekend.

You might want to try Every Man Jack's salicylic acid facial cleanser. I've used it and it's pretty good. Does a good job of removing the dirt and oil from my face and it's fragrance free, sulfate free, etc. It's about $8 at Whole Foods. They also sell it at Target.

Oily skin is a real SOB. I have to exfoliate every other day or I get a build up of dead skin on my face and I look like a mummy.

I think I'm going to buy the Jack Black face wash and scrub at Sephora tonight. They have a very generous return policy. If you don't like a product, you can return it for all of your money back. So, if I don't like them, I'll send them back...

The Kiehl's stuff may be fine. I prefer to avoid sulfates, because I think they may cause me irritation. They may not. I just avoid them if I can.

Thanks for all replies. Keep me informed on your experiences.

Thanks for the suggestion! I actually bought the EMJ wash and their scrub a few weeks ago, but haven't tried it yet. Been trying to use up the other products like the Keihls; figured I'd save the more aggressive stuff for when it gets warmer and my skin gets oilier.

EMJ is a great "bang for your buck" product line. The scrub is much gentler than Jack Black's (as I just found out the hard way this morning by using the JB scrub with the intensity that I used the EMJ one - ouch!) and most other scrubs and I love the mint scent. That said, the regular, non-salicylic acid cleanser is a little too wimpy. The SA one worked a lot better for me. The regular cleanser is probably better for someone with normal to dry skin.

I regularly use Kiehl's Facial Fuel Face wash. It's a great product and a bottle lasts me about four months, I use it twice a day.

I've mentioned a couple times on this topic that I really like Lab Series for Men Triple Action face wash. I have moderately oily skin and it seems to work quite nicely.

I also like a lot the of the Jack Black stuff as well. The Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser is really good and their Face Buff scrub is great especially when I grow the beard out. Some have mentioned Face Buff is a bit too harsh, but I find it does the trick. Their stuff is a bit pricey, but if you use it in moderation it will last a while.

My verdict on Jack Black is a big MEH. I like the scrub all right, but I don't like the cleanser. It's too weak for my skin and it's one of these "moisturizes as it cleanses!!!!" products, which I don't really get. If I want a moisturizer, I'll apply one separately. It just isn't strong enough to remove all the grime I accumulate on my naturally grimy skin in this grimy city full of grimy griminosityness. I think I'm someone who needs a salicylic acid or acid of some sort type of product.

The scrub is pretty good, but good enough to cost $30? Not for

Both products, collectively, cost $52 ($48 + tax) and that's three times what I spent for the Every Man Jack products (salicylic acid wash and regular scrub) that were more effective. I'll most likely be returning the JB stuff. I might try the Anthony Logistics Acne Cleanser, but most likely I'll just stick with EMJ, which I highly recommend.
