What's new

It's taken me a year to realize this

AOS shaving cream. I don't like it. I started out with this product, and now I've noticed that every time (literally) I use it it yanks the moisture right out of my face and kicks it around on the ground. My other creams don't have quite this effect, and my soaps have the exact opposite. Granted I've only used the Lavender cream during this time, but i have to say I'm not too keen on trying any others if they aren't in sample form. I guess the cream just ain't for me .

I've never been a fan of AOS. Once I saw that they were charging $18 for a styptic pencil, and $22 for pre-shave that consisted mostly of olive oil I concluded that they must be one of those companies that sells cheap crap for a lot of money, just because they can get Macy's to carry it... I also just wasn't that impressed with the samples they sent me.

+1

I had a tube of KMF Sandalwood, and I forced myself to finish it just because of the amazing scent.

It does smell awesomely fantastico, but it dried my face during shaves

The cheapest creams generally provide the best skincare (IMHO)

Oh, and Spurs fan here :thumbup1:

AOS turned me off by charging such a premium for MERKUR razors. $200 for a Futur that runs $125 at westcoastshaving???
I'll just buy the three T's thank you very much!!

the thing is that its not only the cream, but the essential oil on which its based on have to be paired up with the skin, using citrics with dry skin, or sandalwood with greasy skin, it could be quite problematic, you have to make sure you´re not being counter productive by using a cream whos oil base reacts badly with your skin type,

I just tried my first shave with AOS products the other day. Shave oil first, then unscented cream, then unscented ASB.

It was the worst shave I've ever had. My Wapi wanted to stick to my face, and the lather was all gluey no matter what I tried to do. The oil felt like vaseline, and the ASB was all gummy and sticky as soon as I put it on.

I'm glad it was a one time sample, and I'll never try another one again.

The AOS pre-shave oil is the worst pre-shave oil on the market. Its garbage. Thick and sticky. Not what a pre-shave oil should be IMHO.

I recently got a few free samples of their stuff. The pre-shave oil and aftershave balm were nothing to write home about, but I was pleasantly surprised by their shaving cream. I had to add quite a bit of water to get a good lather, but once I had that my shave was very close and smooth.

But of course, if you don't like it you don't like it. There are plenty of other good creams and soaps out there to fit your needs and likings. As with all facets of wet shaving, personal preference is king and your mileage will vary.

There soap is damn good though. AOS is def pretentious and some things are outrageously over priced, but i'm reluctant to completely trash them since they are raising some awareness about wet-shaving (even if they're doing some of it wrong). The more popular this gets, the more we can help stave off Shavepocalypse

Ugh. I started wetshaving with a AOS starter kit. That pre-shave oil almost killed the venture for me. That stuff was awful. I'm just glad I figured out that I should drop the pre-shave oil rather than completely quitting wetshaving after a first couple really disappointing shaves.
