What's new

It really does pay to look closely at the photos

I was having a browse through eBay France (sorry Luc, I know it's your territory) looking at some straight razors when I had a look at this.

It didn't look much. It needs a clean up but looks solid. It had a buy it now of E19. I was about to move on when I noticed it had a second picture which is quite rare for eBay France. Almost every listing only has one picture. So I opened the second picture.

I couldn't hit that Achat immediat (Buy It Now) button fast enough.

I see LE GRELOT, then HOSPITAL. Third line I can't read.
I would have jumped on it too, if I was crazy enough to cruise ebay FR without knowing French.

Nothing ventured nothing gained. I've bought a few on ebay Germany as well.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but as you say in your title, it does pay to look closely at the photos:

It appears to me that although it is a quality steel Legrelot, it also appears to have a somewhat significant frown that will make honing it a chore and a half.

Perhaps in person it will turn out to be just a photo artifact, but it looks like it to me....

I agree with Seraphim......my first thought was that there was a major frown on the blade too.

Still, for the price it could turn out to be quite a good deal.

I saw one on ebay france a couple weeks back, only to find he only shipped to france, £20 and a lovely razor she was too. :glare:

I agree, it does look to have a frown. I wouldn't describe it as significant but certainly noticeable. Nothing that an experienced honemeister won't be able to fix for me. If I pay US$50 to get it honed, levellled and cleaned up a bit, it's still an extremely cheap LeGrelot
