Is there a trick to honing a stainless blade?

I was given a Dovo Inox as a gift.
The person who gave it to me told me they couldn't do anything with it. OK...a challenge.
I started with my vintage Coti, which yielded nothing.
I then tried my DMT 1000...still nothing.
I moved on to my Naniwa SS 1000...nothing...nada...zilch. Won't even shave arm hair.
Is there a trick to sharpening stainless?
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks.

Do you have a loupe? the razor might have been honed with tape in the past and you now need to remove the old bevel before you reach the edge of the edge.

Well, I ran it over the lip of a glass before starting, then used electrical tape. There was previous honewear. I tried with a DMT 1000, a Naniwa SS 1000 & my vintage coticule.
I could not get a consistent edge. It would shave arm hair in a couple of spots, but not all. I put a magic marker to it, ran one lap both ways & could still see a mark towards the toe on one side & the heel on the other.

Sounds like you may have a slight warp in the blade. Not the end of the world. Just requires some creative strokes. Rolling X, elliptical, scything etc. Modify your strokes to concentrate on the areas that most need it. Try a narrow hone so the edge can always get flat to the rock. Good luck!

Dovo INOX are notorious for coming warped from the factory.

Buy a Gold Dollar instead, the quality is better

Seriously!

While I haven't heard about the Inox specifically, I have heard about quality control issues from Dovo.
I may try a Gold Dollar one of these days just for kicks. :)

I purchased three, THREE brandy new Dovo INOX blades a few years back, each one was warped exactly the same. I kept sending it back to the vendor, who was great in dealing with it. But we both gave up after the third try.

Dovo makes crappy box like scales, they have consistently warped blades, and their 5/8 roundpoint is the most boring razor on planet Earth, and perhaps the entire solar system.

Overpriced caa-caa.

My Dovo is carbon and not stainless and I got it on a trade. I was amazed at how many little thing were not up to the price tag they want for new.

First new blade for me was a dovo. Warped and short at the toe. Thank God for dmt 325. A bit of hone wear for a brandy new blade,( I despise tape!) but I wont ever have to do it again. Bought 4 gold dollars, they were a snap, once I ground the shoulders a little with the dremel 3 out of 4 anyway. 2 of 4 got microchips after the 1200 dmt and were all honed the same. I don't know why. Anyway they all turned out well.

I hone stainless the same way I do carbon, never had any issues with the difference in steel. Perhaps the stainless takes slightly longer to hone than most carbons and the same amount of time as the TI carbonsong steel.
Warpage is unfortunate but has nothing to do with the type of steel used.
