Ink Review: Diamine Oxblood

My first shot at an ink review, so it might be a little rough, but bear with me...it'll get better!

I picked up three bottles of Diamine Ink from Jetpens.com while they were having their clearance/discontinuance sale; Oxblood, Majestic Purple, and Sherwood Green.

Here's my review of Diamine Oxblood. I think it's an excellent, attractive ink, well-performing, and definitely will be in regular use in the Snargle household!

EDIT: I just tried the Oxblood ink and the same pen on a lower-grade paper (24 lb. Office Max Laser Paper) and it performed equally well...no feathering or bleed-through.

Wow, they must have had a ton of the Oxblood in stock. I bought Oxblood, Graphite, and a Pilot Petit1. Nice work on a review. I'd give this friendly advice to any reviewer -- don't push yourself too hard. I was trying to crank out way too many reviews, got way burnt out and had some other stuff happen. I keep meaning to try another review, but it's like a mental block comes up every time I think of it.

I think the description that does this ink justice is the one I heard comparing it to going to the butcher shop, getting some nice steaks, and then looking at the drippings left on the butcher paper after you grill them up. It's a great color if you ask me.

Thanks for the review! I rather like this colour myself. I got a sample of this one and Noodler's red/black ... Inkdrop, IIRC ... and tried them both at about the same time. I much preferred the Oxblood both for colour and performance.

By chance, do you have any of the Syrah? I am wondering how it compares in real world writing to the Oxblood. Your image has good lighting, so I can clearly see that that the Oxblood might be a bit darker, but not sure how much darker it might be.

If not, it is fine. Thanks for the review. :) When the sale was posted I put the Oxblood in my cart, and by the time I hit "buy" it was sold out. >_< Also, Dave Barry for the win!!

Haven't tried the Syrah, but I've heard good things about it. This is my first venture into Diamine territory.

Maybe it's just the lighting, but that looks identical to Red Dragon, which I have in my pen right now.

I'm sure they're different if I saw a side by side comparison, but alone it looks like Red Dragon

Great review!

Heard about the clearance and decided to wait a couple days. Was going to pick this up, but went on there today and they had completely sold everything I wanted!

I learned a valuable lesson today: NEVER delay gratification! :)

I once had a sample of both. Red Dragon is brighter and lighter but is certainly in the same family.

I had a sample when it was in InkDrop and loved it. I haven't picked it up because I have BSAIR. I know they are very different but it is still a red/black... I have to show some thrifty restraint?!
