Inexpensive Bound Notebook with Good Paper?

I need a bound notebook to keep a training log in. I want one with bound pages, like a Moleskine or Mead composition notebook but with decent paper that won't bleed through when I write on both sides. Neither of the books I mentioned above fit that part of the bill.

Is there anything out there that will work? And hopefully, be cheap too?

Thanks!!

Using a pencil or ballpoint will solve the bleedthrough issue - in which case you can use just about anything.

What don't you like about the Moleskine - I have a small stitched notebook that I really like (and no bleedthrough).

I've never tried one but how about a Rite in the Rain notebook? They're waterproof so perhaps they won't bleed.

+1 on the pencil. You can even use a bit of duct tape to fabricate an attached sleeve for your pencil. Carry an extra in case the point breaks.

I have a stack of old green-covered military memo books that I use for stuff like that. I also have some Moleskine notebooks that I've used in very humid and wet places and they're still in good shape. I've never tried Rite in the Rain, but the price is pretty low. There must be somebody on here who has one.

Check Barnes & Noble or Borders. They seem to run constant sales on nice notebooks.

I can spend hours in a barnes and noble.

The amount of money I spend there every year is ridiculous.

And for the OP: I have a few moleskins and they don't bleed through. I do just use the cheap pens we get from work though...

Sharpie doesnt seem to bleed through my Riteintherain books. I use those tons.

Do you have something that flows more than that when you write? If youre some some sort of fancy-schmancy pen, it probably wont like that paper...

I use a rite in the rain for my training log. I like it because it is water proof. I have never tried to use a FP with it, but my understanding is that they are horrible for FP use, the ink just sits on top of the paper and does not dry. I use a Fisher space pen when I write in it.

See if this place doesn't keep you busy for a while!

Thanks for the link.

Yep. I've been using a Moleskine Volant, but it's rather difficult to read because I can see the last couple day's workouts through the paper. I use a Pilot G2 pen.

Online is the best way to go IMO. You enter all kinds of information for the days workout like your run time, start weight, end weight, weather, GPS and more. It keeps track if you may be starting to fatigue and need to back off or need to drink more water because you lost too much weight during your workout, keeps track of the course you used to ride or run and puts elevation into account. Then you can see how your body reacts at certain points and where you need to work on.

I used www.trainingpeaks.com Excellent and really inexpensive.

PM me if you don't have heart rate monitor.

I will look into that, I've heard of that site before, but I also like keeping a physical copy for myself as well.

I use fountain pens in my Moleskines and never have a problem with bleedthrough. Are you guys using 1.0 mm pens or something?? Thinner pens like a .5 G2 doesn't bleed through.

What Moleskins are you using? Some are good for FP's and some are not so good.

When I'm keeping track of things in a notebook, I only write on one side of the page (unless I'm in danger of running out of pages) for regular writing. I use the right hand side for my written notes, etc. On the left side, I put whatever add'l information I might have--a sketch of a new technique, map, etc. That keeps my notes pretty clear.
