What's new

In praise of the Red Tip Superspeed

Wow, I must say, for the past few months I've been one to want to shave with the more exotic razors that I've been able to get. Lather catchers, gold Super Adjustables (I have 3 of them now...), the Gillette Senator, to name a few of my favorites.

In the process, I've completely neglected any razors I felt were too common. Not so sure why, maybe I just felt the exotic razors would give better shaves. But what a mistake! I decided to pick up my Red Tip today--a razor I bought maybe 4 months ago, but never used once.

This razor deserves all the respect in the world. It gave the close shave that I've only been able to get with Open Comb razors, with no irritation or cuts whatsoever. My girlfriend couldn't stop touching my face and neck! I wasn't even using a fresh blade, either--it was a 3 shave old Crystal.

All in all, this razor is taking a definite spot in my rotation. If anyone is on the fence about it, or afraid it will be too aggressive, it ISN'T! This razor was actually fairly mild to me, but still gave a great shave, on top of feeling great in my hand. I love the heft of it.

that's good to hear. i just picked up a red tip and a 40's style today. shaved with the 40's today, but tommorrow the red tip will get it's maiden shave. hope i get as good a shave as you!

I happen to think of the Gillette Red Tip as the under-dog of hefty razors. It doesn't get the attention/notoriety of the Fatboy, but boy can it shave.

Never underestimate the underestimated!

The Blue Tip was designed for light beards, and the Red Tip was for heavy beards.

Another big fan of the Red Tip.

Is there a major difference between the red tip and blue tip razors ?

Often they are on ebay for sale and they look very much the same to me.

In other words, the Red Tip is a more aggressive razor than the Blue Tip. I have both, and much prefer the Red Tip.

On a side note, this morning I loaded a Feather blade in my Red Tip for the first time, and Wow! Great shave!

I really like my red tip, especially with Feathers, however, I'd give a slight nod to my Krona for a great shave from a mild razor. Love 'em both! Each has it's own personality(?) and feel.
