What's new

I love when they clean up well

Snagged an E4 for a decent price, looked pretty rough, showed up today ugh, lets see whats under the scum.

A little scrub and some polish, looked pretty good... but the blade gap was off as well as the head was seated too deep setting 1 was more like 4, so I pulled it apart, tweaked, cleaned, re-lacquered the adjuster spring and painted the numbers. Nickel looks great no need to mess with the plating, a little loss on the tto knob nothing major. happy to add it to my collection :w00t:

Dang man. I would have thought for sure that was rust causing damage. You did an amazing job. Sharing is caring in regards to your cleaning routine:thumbup1:

Great rehab on that one! The cleaning looks like a feat in itself, but you went the extra mile and fixed the mechanical problems, as well. Most people would have written that one off.

My cleaning is pretty simple, dish soap and a brass brush, this one had a blade in it when it shipped in hence the rust, a little clr on a magic eraser to clean out the corners under the hood scrub and rinse but you cant leave it on for long it will attack the nickel, clr will strip the blackened brass ring under the adjuster knob, steer clear of that part. I only use clr to kill rust and spot application.
A good slathering of meguiars #9 hand rub to pull oxidization, mild hand buff on the silo doors with a red foam pad also with #9, toothbrush with baking soda or whitening tooth paste, hot water rinse, barbisol dunk for 10min.

Its a complete roll of the dice sometimes you find awesome-ness under the scum, sometimes salvageable for replate and sometimes no hope, that's where I start thinking paint options.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.
