What's new

I emailed Derby co.

so here is the message I sent today. Hopefully I will get a re:

I am sending this message in regards to the Derby Extra Double Edge blades. It has come to our attention, members of Badger&Blade forums, that these recent DE blades are of different quality and some have received unsatisfactory results. We have come to the conclusion that there is a quality issue that needs to be addressed. If there is please let us know what you can do to resolve this matter.
Thank you,

Well... to be honest... I wish you hadn't implied that all of the members of this board share your perception of their blades. I think there are way too many of us, with way too many points of view, for one person to be our collective spokesperson.

+1. I don't know anything about Derby blades.

I don't think that it implies everyone but, I would say, unless you own the site, that was a pretty bold move to get results.

I agree with the email though. I found the derby's with the vertical writing on the cardboard insert to be horrid, rough and scratchy! The horizontal writing insert are actually my favourite blades and I have stocked up on these ones. I think Derby should definitely do something about this issue!!!

There, I fixed that for you.

I concur.

i have bought several hundred Derbys, and I have received several as samples, and I have not noticed any inconsistency. I think they are great blades, and they have given me no problems.

I've been using Derby's in rotation for over three years from multiple purchases without an issue, and haven't experienced the purported inconsistency of quality that some B&B'ers report.

There's a problems with Derby Blades? This is the first I have read of it.

I also agree that it was rather pretentious of you to claim to speak for the entire forum.

I have yet to try any derbys, but I remember a post somewhere where some people where claiming to be having unusually unsatisfactory results with some of the blades from the same recently purchased package...

Just wanted to point out, if the supposed quality control problem actually exists, I don't imagine there is any quick fix for this.

Let's say the factory fixes the issue (again if the issue really is wide scoping, which as of yet is fully unknown), that means all of the NEW production from that date forward will be fine, but it could be quite some time before those blades would actually make it into the hands of the customer.

Old stock can exist in warehouses for quite some time, especially with products like DE razor blades which may not exactly fly off the shelves.

There's no concensus "Derby discussion" going on...it's just that many people have noticed inconsistant blade quality from pack to pack. It's not even a case of "this whole pack is bad", it's more like there is a higher instance of random bad blades with Derby's than other popular blades. There's no conspiracy here, just crappy QC. I found them to be less than satisfactory for many reasons, but six out of twenty bad blades were enough for me...along with irritation, dullness, short lifespan, and genereally lousy shaves...

Perhaps this is why Derby's are so cheap compared to say, Feathers.
