How To Travel With Your Brush

Hey Everyone,
As someone who travels often, I was wondering what everyone else does to protect their brush while its tucked away in your overnight bag along with all your other stuff. I've heard of travel brush cases, presciption pill bottles, a waterbottle cut in half with the top cut off aswell (which i found quite interesting but takes up lots of space) just wrapping it with paper and an elastic band.

I personally have an old sunglasses case that fits my brush perfectly and it doesnt take up much space at all which is awesome.
just wondering if anyone has some interesting stories of how they protect their gear.

I ended up having to keep my badger brushes out so they could dry the last time I traveled.

I have since purchased a synthetic that seems to dry reasonably well in a few minutes.

I will put this in a suitable container and see how it goes on my next trip.

Done with traveling with natural hair brushes unless I am going from point a to point b and staying there for a while. No more "months on the road" with a natural brush hoping it will dry out

I'm constantly traveling on my job so I carry a synthetic brush that dries out fairly quickly.

I use a badger brush on the weekends.

I am in the "prescription bottle" school. In the photos of my travel shave kit below, you will see a Rooney 1-1 in Silvertip. It has now been replaced by a Wee Scott in a smaller bottle.

Lovely little blade box! Where did you get that from? Looks vintage.

In my case, a brusch case (horrible pun...).

I am currently using a Omega Mighty Midget "wide" Boar stored in a Simpson Case tube. (Used to have the Wee Scot but the handle was just too frickin small.) I'm asking for the Muhle Synthetic travel brush for Christmas because the boar takes a long time to dry and when returning home from travel I need to take out the brush and let it dry thoroughly before putting it away. Sounds like a minor issue but I'd like to be able to just stow my kit as soon as I'm home.

I use a vintage brush case for a very old vintage gillette brush into which Bob Farvour put a modern TGN knot. It's about a 16mm knot and it dries out quite quickly. Not as fast as a synth, but fast enough. The bigger the brush, the longer the drying time required. You don't need to use a synth on the road unless you want to; just go with a smaller brush. After shaving, use some kleenex rather than a towel to gently squeeze out the moisture. Do this several times and then give it a few shakes to separate the bristles. My unscientific observation is that using kleenex rather than a towel gets more of the water out of the bristles.

The brush case you see here has since been replaced by one that has holes in the top. The "shampoo" bottle actually holds some proraso red and the little hotel size Aveda bottle contains an aftershave splash called Eau d'Emeraude. The rest is self explanatory. It's everything I need for on the road. Stuff gets rotated in and rotated out, but these are the basics. In fact, now that I think about it, the brush is the most permanent part of this kit. The razor has a new home and I've been trying some hard soaps when I travel, but the brush never changes.

I have used a plastic tube with holes and in a pinch I've used the cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper with a rubber band. I'm with Turtle and now use a synthetic brush for travel.

I bought a brush holder for around $6, but I like a lot of the inventions.

What's wrong with using a hair drier on a brush (from a respectful distance)?

When traveling, I've been using an Omega Lucretia Borgia synthetic brush because it does dry very quickly and I pack it in a plastic travel tube I bought some year's ago from Em's Place, the 2 work well for my needs.

Here you are my two options of travelling brushes:

If I have enough storage space and can bring with me a bowl, my Kent BK8 brush. If not, Omega sells a good travel case (although is has not any cap in one side) with a brush and plastic holder in it, hehehe... In other words: many cheap Omega boar brushes like this 81052 are equipped with its own travelling pack ;-). And at least here in Spain it costs less than a single Simpson travel case alone...

Cheers!

I use a travel tube like this one:

I travel frequently, often several times a week. I remove the brush from the tube every night when I arrive at my hotel and allow it to continue to dry as much as possible overnight. If I'm in the hotel for more than one night, I leave the brush out to dry just as I would at home.

Most important of all, I rotate the brush I take so that I don't use the same brush two weeks in a row.

And of course, I shake as much water out of the brush as I can before packing it.

Works for me!

When I travel I use my Dovo silvertip travel brush. It comes in its own stainless steel tube that breaks down to about 3 inches. I just pack it into my dopp kit. Its a bit on the pricey side, but I'll never need another travel brush.

Here's what I've been using since last year as my travelling setup....small and compact...the two sides 'spiral' together...
