How to Resassemble Merkur Mergress ?

Does anyone Know of or have a link on how to Reassemble a Merkur Mergress? I got one today i bought off of a member here on BST and For some Reason i pulled back on the Knob so i can Clean it, but the knob doesn't go back in. it has a Tension Ring that i cant Squeeze back in to place, Not as easy as the Merkur 39C :eek:/ Any Help would be Appreciated Thanks :biggrin1:

It is not easy. I had a heck of a time getting mine back in. I had to grip the tension ring very tightly to re-insert it back into the handle. It took quite some time.

I'm Curious as to what did you grip it with ? Also how did you align it once you get it in ?

Just remove the tension band. Save it. All it does is hold the knob assembly in the handle shaft. Does not affect alignment by removing it. And it operates a lot better and disassembles for cleaning a lot easier. BRW never built them into his new additions. Eric re-uses the existing Merkur assembly. Or press the band together with forefinger and thumb holding the ring next to the handle shaft and it will go in.

Thanks for the Removing tension clip idea, but if possible i rather keep it that was as i would hate to see the shaft hit the floor and break a tile. I have tried with a pair of need nose pliers and cant get it in :eek:/ i cant imagine using my fingers to get it in :eek:/

Take a picure.

Is the ring still in the groove on the knob?

You should have no problem pinching it with your fingers and popping the knob back in.

I think you may have the retaining ring slipped out of the groove it resides in. I wouldn't remove it permanently either.

Something sounds out of line though. It should be easy. You shouldn't need pliers or a grip that could crack walnuts to do it.

Thanks for the tip, and yes the ring is in the grove of the knob and not out of place.) I will try with my finger tips, but this tention clip feels like steel :eek:/

I will post a picture later on.

This sounds a bit odd. i have had a vintage Progress and have had a modern Progress and a Mergress and they were all very simple to squeeze the ring and re-assert it.
i hope goes well.

I would like to thank all that Responded and tried to help out

What had happend was that the Tention ring some how slid down the knob and kind of go stuck in the grove at the end of the knob, not allowing me to squeeze the tention ring. So i slid up the tention ring and it poped out of the grove at the end of the knob. slid up the tention ring again to the groved and proper location where the tention ring should be and viaola, the tention ring was in free spin mode and can easily be squeezed with my finger and slid shaft right into its place.

Also after playing with the alignment for a while i was able to get it aligned perfectly, nice and tight on the + sign :biggrin1:

Thanks Everyone.

ERVARGASNY you made my life easier by going through the gauntlet with this. Mine did exactly the same thing an hour ago. I read your solution and slotted the ring into place - pinched and Voila! Thanks for making my life easier through your own torment. I was toying with using pliers - glad I didn't and read your thread. What a great razor though eh?:biggrin1:
