How to control/style a beard?

Hi all. I was curious if any of you guys used products to keep your beard from being wild and bushy. My beard is trimmed short (3/8") on the sides, but I am growing the hair on the chin longer. It is probably around 1" or 1 1/4" long at this point by my estimation. The problem is, it gets bushy and wild and that's not the look I am going for. I am currently using Axe pomade but it helps only slightly. Ideas?

Just for reference, this is the kind of beard I am going for (don't you laugh at me ):

You can use mustache wax or hair gel, like Got2b Unstoppable Gluing Paste. I don't have any specific recommendations for the wax besides I didn't like the Clubman one. If you have a darker beard make sure you get one of the colored waxes because the neutral or white ones show too much.

Well played, sir. Actually the only thing I dislike about my beard is that I have less surface area to shave. I lather my whole face anyhow in an attempt to enjoy the creamy goodness even if it will only be rinsed away rather than shaved off.

I would think maintaining a well kempt beard is a lot harder than simply shaving it off.

It definitely is. Especially the touchups and keeping the lines straight. I work I corporate America...so a beard is already kinda pushing the envelope...i make sure it is impeccably kept.

+1.

I've done both for extended periods, I (and my wife) actually like the style and look of a beard (full with shaping around cheeks and neck, even length, just long enough to not start curling) on my face.

It's just too much work. Although since I purchased a razor comb, I'm tempted to try it rather than clippers, but only tempted thus far.

Also, FWIW, most of my coworkers and friends think that I look younger when cleanshaven.
