How much would you pay for an already replated razor?

Hello everyone but ive noticed this guy on ebay selling replated razors for different prices, all are in gold and all are buy it now. he was selling a slime in gold for 90 and a aristocrat no notch for 80 flare for like 60 long comb 70 and etc. and I almost bought them but i realized I could replate them myself for a bit cheaper but the replate would cost me almost as much as the razor he was sellingso if I bought it i could sell the one i wanted to replate and be in the green. so im asking how much would you all pay for the following razors in the following plates. nickel, gold and rhodium.

Fat boy
slim

Heh, closecut! We try to keep the animus down to a minimum here. The OP posed a legitimate question. I've never bought a replated razor (nor had one replated) but I own more than a dozen vintage razors and have toyed with the idea. I figure a replate should run in the $40 (for Ni)-$50 (for Rh and Au) range , so I'd simply add that to my normal price. Uncased user grade FB go for around $40 so I'd be willing to pay $75 or so. Slims maybe $5 less. The next four in your list go for around $25 so maybe $70 or so for a replated razor in excellent shape. I don't know that I'd buy an uncased Aristocrat, so it's hard to put a price on just the razor. The fat-handle Tech would probably be in the $60 - $70 range for a nice replated one. And I would NEVER replate an ABC model in anything other than Ag.

HTH.

I bought a rhodium replated Aristocrat on Ebay for $80 shipped, unboxed. Since I already own 4 other Aristocrats in cases, it wasn't an issue. I thought that it saved me about $30 or so (shipping, etc.) and no wait. This razor is magnificent, and took over the number 1 spot in my rotation.

I personally would be willing to pay a good price depending on the actual seller. Someone who has a good reputation around here of selling top notch razors on the bay such as OCRazorman would warrant a higher selling price than someone who has yet to have proven themselves around here. I fully believe in the opinions of the other members (particularly the veterans) here on B&B and have faith that I would not be making a bad decision.

I decided to buy a replated slim for 70 it seems like a fair price, so i guess if it turns out to be in decent condition ill just sell my slim and buy the stuff replated, save time and money, if its decent ill wait for him to post another fatboy and try to snag it.

The seller seems to have the prices in line with what they are worth, and looking at the quality, the plating was done very well. You'll have a hard time getting a better deal, especially if you aren't sure how good the work of the plater that you want to use is.

+1

I don't like it necessarily, but I would pay up to $225 for a rhodium re-plated Fatboy from Above the Tie--as long as it has no pits. I hate re-plates that still have pits in them...
