How did YOU get started with aftershave?

I walked in to a Walgreen's to get a Milky Way and walked out with an aftershave. After unscrewing the caps on Skin Bracer, AFTA, Old Spice and others I kept shaking my head, "Just not for me..." Settled on Clubman and bought it. Later I tried some of the Masters line and I was off and running. Then I heard of this forum place called Badger and Blade and things only accelerated after that.....:scooter:

How about you?

I think Skin Bracer was the first aftershave I ever bought. I loved the cooling effect and have now become fond of any mentholated AS.

I think Brute was the first aftershave I ever used. Was one of those "gift sets"

For the longest time I did not use aftershave. Couple of good slaps to knock the water off my face and I was off and running :001_smile.

Now I have so many aftershaves that it takes me a good half an hour to decide which one to use.... :confused1

When I first started shaving in high school, I used Gillette CoolWave, then I stopped because it was drying my face out and I got tired of the smell. Then I found B&B and got some Clubman and decided that it was because I was shaving wrong that AS made my skin dry, and then the bottles kept multiplying (Skin Bracer, AV, OS, Osage, Masters, Captains Choice, you name it!)

Hmm, I don't remember! I know my older brothers had bottles of Hai Karate, Brut and Old Spice when I was a kid that I probably tried a bit of, and I think my dad used Skin Bracer occasionally. I know he had a bottle of Lectric Shave that he used before shaving with his electric shaver. I believe my first aftershave was Skin Bracer, then Aqua Velva, if memory serves me correctly.

ahh, a/s
I used balms mainly when I shaved and one summer in the Caribbean. I was staying with family in the countryside and enjoying a morning coffee with my mom's uncle. a farmer. he smelled wonderful and I asked what that scent was. RON DE BAHIA, or BAY RUM!! I tried aqua velva a while back and love that as well. Now that I use a safety razor I enjoy aftershaves more. Even old spice which I like now.

When I was a kid, my dad had bottles of Brut, Old Spice, and English Leather. I'm not sure which one I tried first but I enjoyed rotating those three.:laugh:

WARHAWK

Believe it or not, but I started using aftershave about 2 years ago when I started shaving with a DE/straight. I'll be 35 this year.
For some reason I just always shaved w/ a M3 in the shower and never used A/S. I purchased some AS when I bought my first 'real' razor since it seemed like they went hand in hand. Now I can't NOT use AS. Go figure.

Watched Home Alone, called bull crap, tried it, and loved it.

I try to match my brands and scents so even if I have a large selection I always have an easy time picking one.

My dad never used aftershave (he shaved, befor showering, with an electric for most of his life). As a child I remembered my barber splashing Pinaud Clubman on my neck after the haircut, so that was my first aftershave. Then I started trying to drugstore offerings: AV Ice Blue, Old Spice, Skin Bracer. Liked them all and still use them. Then B&B introduced me to new brands such as Proraso and Floid.

Old Spice.. My grandfather used in back in the 70's and I remember watching him shave as a kid... So when I began shaving in the 80's Old Spice was my first aftershave and I still use it in my rotation....

I wanted to know how the older gents who'd breeze by me always smelled like my childhood barbershops. By deduction i discovered the scent was Clubman. That was my gateway drug.

Dad's Old Spice, in about 1967 when I first started, then picked up some OS Lime by mistake one day, and was hooked. I still wear a lime scent in the hot months

My dad always told me that I needed something for sensitive skin, I got the Nivea balm. I used it for a good 15 years and then, someone on this board introduced me to Japanese Aftershaves splashes. I never used a splash and even less something like a Japanese Aftershave. What do they know anyways?

It was one of the best AS I ever had. Since then, I never used a Balm.

My Dad always wore A/S, especially EL and Royall Spyce. When I started shaving I used what he had lying around and it has been live long addiction.

Old Spice, when I started to shave a bought their soap and aftershave. I still use the AS and I would like to see their soap back in shops again.

My dad never used aftershave so I didn't either. Then years ago I tried some Afta and hated it. I could never understand why you would put something with alcohol on your face after a shave. It burned like crazy! After I found B&B I soon discovered that I had been hacking my face up all those years with bad shaving technique. I ordered some samples from Gary's and I think the first I tried was Clubman. So after about 25 years of never using aftershave, I now use it after every shave.
