What's new

How big of a difference would going from a Lord Premium L6 (LP1822L) to an De89lbl?

I know that everyone has different opinions and YMMV but on the whole, how does the L6 compare to an Edwin Jagger? People praise the L6 for its quality for the money, but I don't see it get compared to others out of its price range. Would shaves generally be smoother with the de89lbl? I had the L6 for over a year and it was my first and only de razor. I'm just wondering if it's worth getting something a tad more expensive for a hopefully better shave. Not that the L6 is bad by any means.

I know that everyone reacts different to whatever razor, but I figure maybe some experiences wouldn't hurt.

The Edwin Jagger is much heavier and will therefore perform slightly better. I am a big fan of the L6, which I used to use for side-by-side blade comparisons (I had two L6s). Ultimately, I switched to heavier razors. The EJ DE89 or the Weber 34C HD are both great.
However, I have to recommend a vintage Gillette NEW (either short comb or long comb). There are lots of them on the 'Bay. Or B&B member Krona Kruiser often has replated NEWs for sale.
In any event, try another razor, you will enjoy the adventure.

My advice? Listen to the Dr.'s orders.

If you want to go really big (in comparison to the Lord), you could order the Weber Polished Head stainless steel razor. Generally said to shave like the Merkur HD, Muhle R89, but more efficient, even smoother and it will outlast you and your son/grandson if given just a little care. $70 well spent. Only the price of 2 EJ's and no more than the cost of a Muhle R89 Grande. Think about that.

However...the NEW is still my favorite razor of all time. Love the long comb, but the short comb is winning the race for me currently. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of 3 English NEW's so I can sample smoothness from across the Pond.

Agreed. I love the Jaggers. But knowing what I know now, I could have saved a few steps and started with the Weber. But I also agree on the News...great razors at a great price.
