Hoping some one can help me with some basic stropping questions

When stropping should razor be flat with the spine and edge be contact with the strop or slightly raised with just the edge in contact?

When and why should a blade be taped, when honing or stropping?

Should the spine of a blade be taped if touching up with Chromium Oxide or other more or less abrasive pastes?

Thanks in advance

The blade should be flat. Lifting the spine will roll the edge.

A blade can be taped when it is honed. This changes the angle of the blade in relation to the hone. It can be done to avoid hone wear on the spine and for advanced honing techniques. It is not always necessary or desireable. Never tape when stropping.

The pastes are generally used on a strop, therefore the question above applies.

Good luck!
