holiday cocktail recipies

Ok, playing off the eggnog thread, what are some of your favorite holiday drink recipies, or what seasonal ingredients are you interested in pulling off in a drink?

Mulled wine is always one of my faves. I used to do mulled cider with a spiced rum (Captain Morgan's), but I think this year I'm going to do mulled wine with maybe a brandy or a dark rum, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and orange peel.

:a54:

I still like the very old lime sherbet punch recipe, (I'm a lightweight). 2 qts pineapple juice, 2 qts, orange juice, 1 litre of sprite, (all cold) mix together in a large punchbowl with 2 to 4 cups ice cold vodka. Float lime sherbet on top.

Once you are at the pinnacle, its hard to change.........., 3 shots from a chilled bottle of Boddles gin, shaken over cracked ice, gently. Poured in the chilled, crystal martini glass, one brief spritz of dry vermouth, add 1 Queen pimento stuffed olive. Enjoy!

I am planning to make coquito (see eggnog thread) and then I will reserve a portion of the mixture, lighten it up with coconut water, and use this as a base for coconut mojitos. I may even get some fresh herbs and do a further break-down of this reserve: coconut lemongrass, coconut rosemary, coconut basil, coconut mint, etc.

Not holiday per se, but should be a fun experiment.

Although probably not traditionally recognized as a, "holiday cocktail", a White Russian has always been a personal favorite for the holidays and/or cold weather. The idea of drinking milk while basking in the mid-day sun just doesn't strike me as appealing.

  • 2 ounces - Vodka (of your choice)
  • 1 ounce Coffee Liquer (Kahlua, Kapali, etc.)
  • Light Cream to taste (Milk can be susbsitited for those wishing to keep calories down)

Ingredients are to be poured over ice, then shaken/stirred, if desired. Serve in an Old Fashioned glass, or equivalent.

I'm with you on that. Grey Goose and Kahlua Especial makes and awful nice treat. Mmmm....

I love Cape Codders and they're good all year round!

Ice cubes
2 fluid ounces vodka
4 fluid ounces cranberry juice
Half a lime, plus a wedge for garnish

Fill a high ball glass with ice. Pour the vodka and cranberry juice over the ice. Squeeze the juice from the lime half into the drink. Stir gently. Garnish the edge of the glass with the lime wedge. Serve.

Then cheer wildly for the BoSox!

My mulled wine is pretty tasty. Still tweaking it, but here's the idea:

1 bottle red wine
8 cloves
6 allspice pods
4 cardamom pods—lightly crushed
1/4 cup (65 ml) water
1/2 cup (125 ml) sugar
1 star anise wheel
1/2 sliced orange—and zest!
1/2 sliced lemon—and zest!
3/4 tsp (4 ml) cinnamon

Last year, for our holiday party, I concocted a crazy-tasty cocktail I call the "Sugar Plum". "It tastes like Christmas". Very sweet. Definitely a sipper.

1 1/2 fl. oz (45 ml) vanilla vodka
1 1/2 fl. oz (45 ml) white cranberry
1/2 fl. oz (10 ml) cinnamon schnapps
1/2 fl. oz (10 ml) chambord
3/4 tsp (4 ml) lemon juice

both recipies look good. I like the addition of cardamom to your mulled wine!

A dram or five of Johnny Walker Blue would make me Merry. Lol. Seriously though, the Italian in me likes nothing more than starting off with a nice cold Prosecco (kind of like an Italian champagne) mixed with some frozen peach nectar (a Bellini), some cranberry juice, or my favorite adding a bit of Limoncello.

Another festive albeit non-traditional Italian holiday drink is some Rose wine with sage.

This is still my favorite for hundreds of years.

Give this recipe a shot...called Oh be Joyfuls...

In an Old Fashioned Glass add ice cubes.

Fill half way with brandy.
2 dashes of angostura bitters
Pinch of sugar
Slice of orange
Cherry
Top with 7'Up

Stir...Drink...and be Merry!

For a Holiday Cocktail, most likely I'll stick with Single Malt Scotch and Bourbon with an occasional Hot Toddy thrown in. But I'm keeping an eye on this thread for more hot cocktail ideas, I love a good warm spirit on a cold day.

Jaeger tea does it for me this winter. The original recipe is 1 part dark rum mixed with 3 parts freshly brewed black tea. In my version I use black tea with a teaspoonful of honey and slice of lemon and brandy/cognac instead of rum.
