help with sheraton

I picked up a gillette Sheraton and found that, when the doors are open, the shaft of the razor can be moved up and down opening and closing the doors. When the doors are tightened down the razor is fine. But if I open the doors it seems like whatever keeps the inner shaft of the razor connected to the razor sleeve is not working.

If you can understand my explanation, any thoughts?

Thanks

When open, my Sheraton has a little bit of vertical play along the shaft. The movement is less than 1-mm, and the doors move by about the same amount. The effect is slightly more dramatic when the doors are closed about halfway, but I don't think I see what you described.

I'm not at home so I can't pull my Sheraton to look at it to see if it would work or not, but another member came up with a fix tool for 40's style Superspeeds that might be worth taking a look at.

I fixed two razors with the pipe cutter tool, a '47 Super Speed and a Senator. Since the Senator and Sheraton are nearly identical razors it should work.

But make sure the cutter has been filed to be very dull all around otherwise you'll shear the end of the handle off. Also go a little at a time. It doesn't take much to fix it.

Thanks for finding that thread, Phil.

Thank you everyone for the tips. I am going to try the modified pipe cutter method. I think it will work.
