Help with merkur impulse buy..

I set aside a sum of money for some shaving supplies, including a merkur 39c.

Now, turns out that if order from wcs, i've got enough room in that budget to go for either a 34c HD or a long handle progress.

Havn't found reviews on the long handle version, but sounds like a solid razor.
I don't own any adjustables, and want to mess around with one...on the other hand , the 34c seems to be the must have for any den.

I can't afford both, so thats not an option...any ways...need help facilitating my rad.:thumbup1:

whose going to be my enabler?

I have no opinion on the Progress, one way or the other, because I've never used one. However, the Merkur HD is an all around classic -- a real benchmark which shaves great. You really should have one, so that gets my vote.

Have you DE shaved yet? Do you have the 39C already? What exactly is your avatar a picture of?

+1

If you get the Progress, you'll be wanting an upgrade knob also ... another $30 or so extra expense.

OTOH, every wet-shaver should have an HD. If you don't already have one, you should.

Use any leftover money for something completely frivoulous from WCS, or start saving for your next order.

If you are a new DE shaver, do not get the 39c. It may be too much for a new shaver and may put you off shaving. Besides the 39c which is long handled Merkur slant. That's it. Merkurs long handled razors are just more money for little longer handle. It will not have any different because of the longer handle. Even if you believe you have big hands, you will most likely hold the razor like a dart or pinch your thumb with index finger. Not hold it like a bat with your whole fist and shave away.

Here is the best razor to get, especially for beginners the 34c HD from Merkur. Of all the razors, its the most balanced, well made and works great with all brands of blades. Also the grip is textured very well so it wont' slip.

the Progress, which I also own is a great shaver too. But if your a new shaver, it can cause problems because the grip isn't textured well like a 34c. It has slipped out of my hand couple times. I don't think getting the long handled Progress will be better shaver, just heavier. Once you feel your ready to try an adjustable, the progress is great shaver. Make sure when you change blades, you screw the top piece in right, so it will have right. Otherwise its a great shaver and aggressive too.

no, it was the primary objective of my order. I'm curious to try the slants. I chose the long handle because i found it easier to handle my krona, which has a longer handle in comparison to my flare tip, black ss or tech.

i've been de and straight shaving for about...5 months now? I did look these things up, its just like i said, i would have paid more locally for my slant and shave sticks without the hd, than i did for both razors from wcs.

I went with the hd for the record, again, because it seems to be like an ss, in the sense that there's almost guaranteed to find one in any shave den.

Another thin, i should be able to throw the hd handle on the slant and vice versa, essentially get 4 razors out of it.

and my avi is a picture of the pedobear with a sign saying "feels good man". Its a really long story but its sort of a combination of 2 popular internet memes.

the hd's guard is attached to the handle,
SO, you could only use the slanted cap on the slanted bar'd razor
your hd slant would be a two peice and not a traditional 3 peice,

sorry to burst the bubble,

if you get a classic i think it works though cause a classic is a 3 peice :)

I would get the Progress because it's adjustable and can be set to match the shave of any and all others. (except the Slant.) More versatile.

meh. Still will have two excellent razors. I'll pull the trigger on the progress next time around.

I don't agree with the long handle doing nothing. I do have gigantic hands. I can shave with a regular size handled razor but it takes more effort. I put all of my fingers on the razor. The middle/pointer finger and thumb pinch around the center of the handle I do. My ring finger sits a bit below the middle in the same position and my pinky finger goes underneath the bottom of the razor. That is my preffered grip which I have less room to do on a regular lengthed razor.
