Help requested identifying a Gillette Slim Twist year

Good evening.

I’ve googled and searched on the forum here to no avail yet (sorry if the answers are buried in there somewhere.)

I obtained this Slim Twist with white handle. Underside of the head has a 4 to the left of the handle and an I to the right of the handle stamped in the middle. Only other marks are a Gillette logo in lower left of the head and made in England in the lower right.

I’ve read some conflicting reports on English made razors not using the standard date codes. This could hold true since I represents 1963 and 1988. It *looks* older than 1988 (maybe not?) and apparently the slim twists were only made after 1967...

Perhaps the case could shed more light on its age too. Looks like it says it originally cost 1.28 at Armstrong drugs. Also apparently this razor was distributed as the Knack in the us. And maybe later or elsewhere as a G1000?

Any help is appreciated :)

First of all I have to explain that I'm a big Beatles fan. Ok, here goes...

The Beatles filmed their movie A Hard Day's Night in early 1964. In one scene, George Harrison uses a safety razor that looks just like yours. So it would make sense that your razor was manufactured in 1963.

This is an amazing pull lol. I’m super impressed

Thanks for that! Interesting how it looks so similar. Just no date code at all on that. I think it is a 63. Wonder why I read a couple places there were no slim twists prior to 67...

If you notice, the pictured razor is called a quick twist. Guessing it’s the predicessor to the slim twist.

Nice find! Astra made a commie knock off of these or was it Wizamet but they cloned it well. White handles and black ones pop up. With the case too! My year. Enjoy!
