Help for the younger generation needed

I grew up in the Axe body spray generation(horrible), so I really know nothing about good fragrances. I was wondering if there is a good place I can go to smell different things and learn what I like, or maybe a site that I could get a good sampler pack from? The only thing I know is that I prefer to be subtle, any help would be very much appreciated!

Pinaud Clubman, Old Spice and AV Ice Blue is all you may need - hit up your local Walgreens, CVS or similar, should be able to get all 3 for less than $20.

Think about the shaving brands and scents you like. Many of them have fragrances in their line. D.R. Harris and Tabac come to mind. Read reviews and test.

Try a sample from imaginary authors. I'm younger too, 24, and I like most of they polos, red, blue, black, double black. I like most Perry Ellis scents, aqua, platinum. Gucci guilty, Versace eros, yves saint Laurent l'homme are some of the ones I like. Try the biggest department store you can find. Mine locally is a Dillards, but most people have a sephora, nordstroms, or a Saks.

Thanks for the advice, this is exactly what I was looking for since I don't really even know what I like yet

If you ever get to Chicago, a visit to Merz Apothecary in Lincoln Square is a small slice of heaven. You will be able to try many of the AS and cologne you read about here. Ditto Pasteur's Pharmacy in NYC.

Otherwise, +1 on AV Iceblue, Clubman, and Sephora.

I'm also young, but I would have to (here comes the hate...:a11:) disagree with the Pinaud Clubman and Aqua Velva recommendation. Maybe not disagree, they're not bad scents at all, but you definitely need to add some more diversity to your frag wardrobe.

Get one or two more youthful fragrances as well. Head to Sephora's and start sniffing. Sephora's is great because they will make sample vials for you, free of charge! So you can try them out for a couple of wearings at home, to make things less confusing.

You could start with two different fragrances, such as:

1. "going out scent" (something that makes the ladies swoon), examples: YSL La Nuit De L'Homme, JPG Le Male, Armani Code, John Varvatos Vintage, Viktor & Rolf Spice Bomb, Paco Rabanne 1 Million, Versace The Dreamer, Burberry London, TM A*Men, Dior Homme, etc etc.

2. a casual, daytime scent (for work, running errands, etc). Examples: YSL L'Homme, Versace Pour Homme, Thierry Mugler Cologne, Terre D'Hermes, Dolce & Gabanna Pour Homme, Mont Blanc Legend, Versace Man Eau Fraiche, etc etc.

The ones I mentioned above are the more modern ones and can more or less all be found at Sephora for testing. But there is plenty of classic fragrances that can easily be enjoyed by the younger generation. For example:

YSL Rive Gauche Pour Homme, Chanel Antaeus, Acqua Di Gio, Davidoff Cool Water, Old Spice classic, Dior Fahrenheit, and many more!

The best thing for you to do is to get smelling, start finding out what you like, and what you don't. If you got a significant other, bring her along with you to help. After all, she's going to be the one smelling you the most!

Best of luck!

Go with GF or wife to the mall and see what turns 'em on.
Remember that aftershaves will vanish quickly.
And colognes will mellow after the 'top notes' evaporate.

Sephora is nice because you can smell alot of fragrances and take a few samples of the ones you like to try them out before you buy. Some fragrances will smell different when you wear them than when spraying on a paper card.

Well if you want browse some nice frags. I would recommend Sephora, Ulta, Carsons/Bergmans or Macy's. If you happen to visit a Nordstroms you can make you own samples or just ask for them.

There's plenty of good advice here, also try Youtube. There are several really good reviews of frags on there.

I got samples from Truefitt and Hill, Floris, Geo. F Trumper, and some odds and ends of scents that sounded good to me from the perfumecourt.com and luckyscent. The T&H and Floris samples were nice because they had a description of the scent and the note breakdown right on the card with the vile. The Floris samples are quite nice.... they give you a lot of juice. It was a good way for me to get familiar with different scents and associate what I was smelling with a description.

Good luck!!

+1 (again) on sephora. Besides all of the free samples. They have a sample box for about $65, it comes with 14 good sized samples and a voucher for whichever frag you like for free. So you spend $65 and get a ton of samples and a free bottle. Look for the Men's sampler. It includes all of the strongest contenders for the "younger" category (Eau d'Issey, Paco Rabanne, Acqua di Gio, etc). I would buy it for myself if I didn't already know which of those I do and don't like.

They make a women's sampler too for the lady in your life.

Edit: and +1 on Frankthetank's recommendations.
