What's new

Have you every consolidated your aftershaves after trying several?

I started with Old Spice, Skin Bracer, and all of the Pinauld scents plus Osage Rub. I gave them all long tryouts but eventually I could kid myself no longer :)

I got rid of everything except Clubman Classic, Vanilla, VIBR, and SR (and I use SR only rarely).

Anyone else narrow down their aftershaves to a more limited selection after an extensive trial period?

What did you end up with?

Still in the testing phase. Plan on piffing the ones neither my wife or I like. So far this is none of them. Florida water was on this list til I tried it mixed with aqua velva. Master bay rum may end up going this way as I don't seem to want to use it much. My wife doesn't like clubman special reserve but I do so I use it when I work--scent is gone before I come home. Doubt ill buy more though. Probably will use regular clubman for work instead--easier to find.

Keepers/repurchase when gone:
Aqua velva
Aqua velva musk
The veg
Clubman

I've actually been thinking about paring my selection back. I have probably 10 different kinds in the cabinet, and I noticed a couple of weeks ago that I have a couple that are half full, about 3 that are definitely used but more than half full, and the rest that look like they've hardly been touched. I've got a couple of buddies that I've recently converted to traditional shaving, and I've about decided that I'm going to pass along the ones I don't seem to be using to them.

Here're the ones I'll keep:
Lucky Tiger Aftershave and Face Tonic
Dominica Bay Rum Lime
Pinaud VI Bay Rum
Florida Water
Pinaud Citrus Musk

Just occurred to me looking at the list of keepers that they're either bay rum or citrus-y. I guess I should call that an identifiable trend because the other ones aren't.

Right now I have 6 different aftershaves. I want to try different options but have made a resolution to use up some of these before buying anything else.

Proraso (excellent, but I like a/s so I use this 1x a week)
Osage Rub (in a spray bottle on hot days)
Good ol Aqua Velva. My favorite and daily a/s.

Aftershave is proving to be the hardest for me to consolidate. Bushes, razors, blades, no problem. Soap, check. Aftershaves? I've even started a small collection of vintage, 50-year-old stuff, like old Old Spice, Zizanie, English Leather, Oriental Jade and Roman Brio.

I will not buy Musgo Real, Veg, or Proraso splash again so there's some whittling going on, but this ain't going to be easy...

I have about 15, but find that I use the same 6 all the time. I will eventually use up those that aren't my favorites, and then try some new ones.
